- JOB SUMMARY

Assists with the day to day oversight of the physician coding team while guiding and directing the team to successful completion of daily tasks.

- DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for monitoring coding work queues, including deployment of coders to areas of greatest need.
- Motivates team members through effective training and guidance to improve quality and professionalism on work assignments. Mentors staff to maximize performance and potential.
- Assist in maintaining and monitoring team member job satisfaction and morale.
- Acts as the first line of contact for the Coding Team.
- Handles requests from the Billing Team when necessary.
- Escalate any area of significant resource contention along with recommendation for resolution.
- Conducts monthly team meetings by specialty.
- Completes all special projects and other duties as assigned.
- In addition, the Lead Coder is also expected to code in their assigned area(s) using the appropriate coding classification system (i.e, CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS).
- EDUCATION/LICENSE/ CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum requirement:
- Maintains active certification by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
- Be willing to learn different aspects of the coding environment and new specialties outside of their current assigned tasks.
- Must currently work as a Charge Capture Specialist in the KDMC Medical Practice Billing Department.
