Main duties of the job
Band 5
You will assess, diagnose, treat, manage and maintain defined caseload using your professional autonomy, applying sound reasoning and judgemental skills whilst ensuring practice is evidence based whenever possible. Our clinics and home visits are a mixture of routine, biomechanics and high risk patients. The clinic rota will also include telephone and video call appointments.
Nail surgery is done on a rota but often there is a need for extra sessions to meet the demand. Nail surgery is also provided for the housebound in their homes.
We have rotational placements working within the diabetic foot clinic at Leicester General Hospital and also treating patients the acute wards at one of the three main hospitals in Leicester.
You will liaise with professional colleagues to ensure safe and effective outcomes of interventions particularly the community nursing service and the wider MDTs.
You will have a base of work but will need to work at other clinics too which is great to meet other staff.
We encourage all podiatrists to have roles of interest eg getting involved in projects, audits, research, being a student placement instructor, line managing etc.
We 'treat to discharge' expect for the high risk patients. This requires excellent treatment planning and communication skills with patients and their families/carers to manage their expectations. We promote self care and independence.

About the company
National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
