Job summary
Applications are invited for a Portfolio Pathway Clinical Fellow (ST3-9) post in Urology. This is a rotational post across Bristol, Swindon, Bath and Gloucester, with one year expected on each site.
We invite applications from urologists who are looking to broaden their experience to support a Portfolio Pathway registration on the specialist registrar. Clinical work will be tailored to experience and training needs. This post is ideal for candidates seeking to gain a broad urological experience to support a competitive application.
The post offers a minimum of 2 training operating sessions per week with one to one Consultant supervision, as well as supervised experience in outpatient clinics, urological procedures and emergency work. There are opportunities to develop audit and research projects, be involved in clinical trials and you will be assigned a named Educational Supervisor.
The post is for a full time contract and the successful candidate will be asked to take part in registrar-level Urology on call duties. Ideally candidates should have a minimum of six months experience in urology. Progression is subject to successfully achieving these development goals.
Post holders would be expected to provide an out of hours service commitment, working alongside doctors in training with the same level of supervision. The post will rotate between RUH and GWH to enable access to all necessary specialties. This mirrors the experience of our current HEE-trainees.
Main duties of the job
This post will provide the necessary training with access to appropriate specialties, to enable the post holder to collect sufficient evidence of experience and training to present to the RCoS Equivalence Committee for Inclusion on the specialist register and therefore eligibility to apply for consultant posts. This evidence is collected in the same way as a trainee with a NTN, submitting assessments, reflections and feedback in line with the 2021 urology curriculum, using the ISCP platform, under the guidance of educational supervisors.
You will work to improve clinical skills in Urology commencing at ST3 level or above and engage in research, teaching or Quality Improvement Activities, under the guidance of an Educational Supervisor, with a view to gaining the required competencies to progress to Portfolio Pathway specialist registration.
A degree of service commitment would be expected, however there will be protected training time to enable the necessary experience and training to be accessed and evidenced. An annual appraisal (alongside the NTN ARCPs) will take place under the guidance of the urology Portfolio Pathway-programme leads to ensure adequate progress is being made. Whereas support and expertise will be available to access the training curriculum and monitor progress in the same way as our trainees, presenting this evidence to the RCoS is the responsibility of the post-holder.

About the company
National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
