Job Description
- Req#: 798834
- Support the discovery and evaluation of new active ingredients and mode of actions for weed control using biochemical and molecular biology methods
- Validate and guide the optimization of active ingredients through the development and use of subsequent assays for their biochemical characterization and in-depth mode of action elucidation
- Heterologous express, purify and characterize plant proteins with active ingredients in appropriate biochemical assays, including e.g. optical and mass spectrometry-based
- Plan and carry out project tasks independently based on agreed-on priorities and deadlines as well as exhibit leadership and ownership of assigned tasks
- Interpret scientific data with the help of computational tools and use insights for the optimization of test systems
- Keep up to date with literature in relevant fields on own initiative and present scientific information to internal and external partners
- Assure appropriate management of intellectual property as well as internal and external documentation of results and progress
- Scientific education in biochemistry or related disciplines with expertise in plant systems (PhD or comparable education)
- Demonstrated experience in molecular biology techniques, especially recombinant protein expression and purification
- Knowledge in enzyme kinetics as well as methodologies to measure protein ligand interactions
- Knowledge in liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC/MS) is highly beneficial
- Experience with plant and plant-cell line transformation and handling are a plus
- Experience with the handling and interpretation of large data sets, strong familiarity with standard IT tools e.g., MS Office
- Ability and willingness to work closely with partners from other disciplines, e.g. chemistry, agronomy, computational life science
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team as well as good interpersonal and communication skills
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken; German language skills are an advantage
