      Main duties of the job

      The post holder will be responsible for providing Nursing Services to patients of the practice including treatment, screening and advice in order to meet the health care needs of the Practice population.

      About us

      Caen Medical Centre has approx 13,000 registered patients and serves Braunton and the surrounding community.

      The Treatment room team is made up of 3 practice nurses and 3 health care assistants with support from other clinical staff as required.

      JOB DESCRIPTION

      Job Title: Practice Nurse

      Professionally Responsible To: The Partners of Caen Medical Centre

      Managerially Responsible To: Lead Practice Nurse for clinical/Practice Manager for HR/general employment

      Terms: As per personal contract

      Job Summary:

      Responsible for providing Nursing Services to patients of the practice including treatment, screening and advice, within the professional competence of the post holder, in order to meet the health care needs of the Practice population.

      Key Responsibilities:

      It is expected that the post holder will work towards being able to undertake the following activities through appropriate training and development:

      To provide skilled nursing care, treatment and diagnostic procedures, as required by the GPs, including venepuncture, wound assessment and dressings, ear syringing, ECGs etc.

      To manage the provision of child immunisations to agreed protocols.

      To have knowledge of the overall nursing management of chronic diseases and to assist GPs in the running of clinics for the regular review of patients with CHD, diabetes, asthma, hypertension, and any other clinic determined by the GPs.

      To provide general and specific health screening, including cervical cytology and new patient checks, to agreed protocols, with referral to the GP as necessary.

      To advise patients on travel healthcare, to plan and give holiday immunisation schedules and provide other prophylactic injection programmes as required to agreed protocols.

      To advise and support patients on general healthcare matters with referral to the GP as necessary.

      To undertake Health Education using all available resources. To evaluate and maintain stocks of such resources. To organise Health Education activity if required.

      To be responsible for the security of all drugs and vaccines held in the Treatment Rooms and for the correct recording of those administered.

      To ensure adequate Treatment Room supplies are held, and that all equipment in this area is clean and well maintained.

      To organise and maintain appropriate registers and accurate records.

      To establish and maintain good communications with GPs, other members of the PHCT and outside agencies on all matters concerning patient care.

      To maintain professional development by attending courses and study days as agreed with GPs/Practice Manager.

      To carry out community work as required by the GPs.

      To participate in clinical audit activities.

      To participate in the education and training of other Practice Nurses or other disciplines within the Practice.

      To be fully aware of personal responsibilities regarding Health & Safety in the Practice.
