      Job summary

      An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and committed Practice Nurse who can offer a full range of general practice nursing with enthusiasm and professionalism to complement our nursing team. We are looking for a minimum of 15 hours per week up to full time (37.5 hours)

      The salary offered would reflect previous experience within General Practice. We are willing to offer a higher salary for experience such as prescribing.

      We offer cervical screening, adult and childhood immunisations and chronic disease annual reviews. We have a strong nursing team of Health Care Assistants and Nurse Associates.

      Main duties of the job

      Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

      • Travel planning
      • Family planning contraception
      • ECG's both acute and routine as required
      • FeNo
      • Spirometry
      • Phlebotomy
      • Chronic disease management
      • Hypertension management
      • BP checks
      • Adult immunisations
      • Childhood immunisations
      • Prepare and send samples for lab testing
      • Assist clinicians with minor procedures if required
      • COPD reviews
      • Cervical smears (proof of training required)
      • Urinalysis of acute and chronic conditions

      About us

      We are an established Practice based in East Lancashire caring for approximately 8200 patients across Brierfield and the surrounding areas. We employ a team of salaried & sessional GPs, 1 Clinical Pharmacist, 2 nurse associates, and 2 HCAs. We are a training practice and have medical students from UCLAN, student nurses, student Physician Associates, Trainee Doctors. We are a research practice and have a research nurse on site.

      We operate a smoke-free policy and the building and car park are non-smoking areas.

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      Provide nursing treatments to patients in participation with general practitioners or independently, meeting agreed protocols

      Implement and evaluate individual treatment plans for patients with a known long-term conditions (Diabetes, Asthma, COPD)

      Identify, and manage as appropriate, treatment plans for patients at risk of developing a long-term condition.

      Provide general and specific health screenings to practice patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to general practitioners as necessary.

      Assist in the clinical assessment of patients, in line with practice protocols and procedures.

      Implement and participate in vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children.

      Following appropriate training, undertake the collection, storage and despatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc. and ensure the cleanliness of any equipment used.

      Perform any investigatory procedures requested by the GPs.

      Assist with training and mentoring of other practice staff particularly nursing team.

      Facilitate audits and quality improvement projects within the practice.

      Work with administrative and management teams to assist in the delivery and achievement of Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF)

      • Experience of dealing with the public/patients.
      • Experience of working as part of a team.
      • Able to deal with difficult and confrontational situations.
      • Dealing with emergency situations.

      • Computer literate.
      • Able to use own initiative.
      • Good verbal and written communication skills.
      • Able to work on own without direct supervision and determine own workload priorities.
      • Able to provide adult and childhood immunisations.
      • Must have full UK driving license.

      • Able to perform cervical smears.
