Develops complex formulations and processes to support the development of new and novel products and/or optimization of existing products. Responsible for performing and/or managing bench top and pilot batches, and supporting technical transfer to manufacturing through scale-up and verification batches.
Builds a pipeline of technology opportunities grounded in consumer needs. Collaborates with Nutrition Science to deliver research programs. Develops intellectual properties that will result in viable patents.
Stays abreast of the external environment to explore, identify and develop innovative and proprietary technologies that have strategic significance. Maintains a network of vendors, consultants and external experts to leverage emerging and enabling technologies.
Conducts well-designed experiments and analyzes data to draw sound scientific conclusions. Presents relevant findings to the appropriate technical groups and management. Develops prototypes to demonstrate application of new technologies. Trains and mentors others in experimental design, formulation and processing.
Provides strong technical leadership to Marketing, Quality, Operations and other cross-functional partners to deliver on project goals. Assesses feasibility for new project ideas to appropriately identify and mitigate risks.
Acts as an R&D subject matter expert in complex trouble-shooting activities to deliver solutions that are technically sound and commercially feasible.
Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in developing innovative new products and problem solving
Track record of successful commercialization of new technologies.
Expert knowledge of formulation and processing of solid dose formats ( at the laboratory (bench-top), pilot and factory scale levels.
Demonstrated ability to influence others, collaborate cross-functionally, and resolve problems for the best business outcome.
Ability to lead, communicate with, and influence others effectively in a cross functional team environment.
Ability to analyze data and demonstrated experience with statistical design of experiments (DOE).
A four-year college or university degree or its equivalent in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Food Science, Chemical Engineering or other relevant science degree. A PhD or Master’s degree is preferred.
Bachelor’s degree requires a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in product development in Food, Confectionary, Cosmetics or Supplement industries. Dietary supplement experience in solid dosage formats preferred.
Master’s degree requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in product development in Food, Confectionary, Cosmetics or Supplement industries. Dietary supplement experience in solid dosage formats preferred.
PhD degree requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in product development in Food, Confectionary, Cosmetics or Supplement industries. Dietary supplement experience in solid dosage formats preferred.
Proficiency in Office applications and familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management. Experience with Siemens preferred.
Demonstrated ability to use technical knowledge as an expert, and proficiency in applying theoretical principles to create applied guiding principles
Ability to travel up to 25%

This role manages all aspects of the formulation, product/process development, scale up and commercialization of new products, and explores and conducts research in relevant technologies. The Principal Formulation Scientist reports to Sr Manager, R&D Solid Dose.

Annual Pay
Annual Pay Range
$140,100.00 - $210,100.00T his represents the minimum and maximum base salary range for this role , plus annual incentive. Various elements are used to determine a candidate’s starting salary such as job experience, specific skills, and comparison to internal incumbents currently in the role.
