What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Perform diagnosis and procedural coding from medical record documentation
- Ensure accurate submission of claims by applying knowledge of coding and billing requirements
- Monitor coding performance and resolve denials related to coding errors
- Educate providers and office staff on documentation, coding, and billing changes
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate coding practices

What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum education: Commensurate education qualifying for certification exams related to ICD-10, CPT, and other specialty certifications
- Certification as a coder through AAPC, AHIMA, BCHH-C, HCCS, or National Healthcare Association; candidates without certification must have at least two years of related experience and obtain certification within one year of hire
- 0-2 years of related experience with a thorough understanding of medical records
- Basic computer and encoder skills with effective communication abilities
- Ability to maintain continuing education credits for credentialed coders
