      Hennepin County is hiring two Probation/Parole Officers (PO) for the Juvenile Probation division in the Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR). These positions are open to different levels of experience/qualifications. Candidates could be hired into the PO, Senior, or Career level depending on related experience of the candidate.

      These positions will provide supervision to clients between the ages of 18-24, who have been sentenced into Adult Court and assigned to the Transition Age Youth Unit. The Probation Officers in this role will work towards client change and public safety through a combination of strategies which are community based, collaborative and draw on client strengths. We're seeking individuals who will operate within a Growth Focused framework utilizing foundational evidenced based practices and partner with clients to move towards positive behavioral change.

      Salary based upon qualifications:
      Probation/Parole Officer salary: $60,080.36 - $90,120.54 Annually
      Probation/Parole Officer, Senior salary: $63,084.38 - $94,626.57 Annually
      Probation/Parole Officer, Career salary: $69,550.52 - $104,325.79 Annually

      Location and hours:
      These are hybrid positions and will be performed both on-site and remote as job duties require. The location for these positions will 1925 Penn Ave N, Suite 510, Minneapolis MN. Work hours are generally Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

      While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

      New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

      In these positions, you will:
      • Conduct actuarial assessments and interpret them to inform case plan and response to observed behaviors. Use correctional evidence-based practices and the inter-connections between them, serving as change agents.
      • Utilize assessment results to develop and support case plans and transitional release strategies with a Growth Focused Case Management (GFCM) and Evidence Based Practice (EBP) framework.
      • Integrate the GFCM framework into interactions with clients as appropriate, promoting positive identity development.
      • Maintain professional, accurate, and comprehensive records in alignment with division practices and GFCM framework.
      • Interpret additional assessments obtained during supervision including, but not limited to, mental health and chemical health and the ability to use results from multiple sources, observed behaviors, and collateral contacts in the provision of tools, skill building interventions and treatment referrals to move youth forward in their pursuit of well-being.
      • Provide in-depth engagement of social supports, community supports and professionals involved in the youth’s life, including family units, school, community non-profits, recreational services, mental health and other service professionals.
      • Represent DOCCR on multi-disciplinary committees and teams and effective maintenance of inter-agency relationships.
      • Collaborate with law enforcement and criminal justice partners regarding client involvement in criminal activity.
      • Maintain documentation of a wide variety of case activity, including, but not limited to, contacts with clients, victims, concerned parties and treatment agencies.
        • Individuals hired at the PO level demonstrate an ability to manage a caseload with the least complex cases within the unit and build proficiency and competency with essential functions of the position through formal and informal training.
        • Individuals hired at the Senior PO level operate with limited oversight and demonstrate an ability to actively case manage more complex cases, independently developing/adjusting supervision and/or case plans and defending decisions independently in Court. Additionally, independent multi-disciplinary work is an expectation for case management.
        • Individuals hired at the Career PO level demonstrate an ability to operate independently with the most complex cases within the unit, are proficient with correctional Evidence Based Practices, and can stand in for a Correctional Unit Supervisor to coach Senior- and PO-level peers on their work assignments requiring higher level functions. Additionally, independent multi-disciplinary work is an expectation for case management.

        Need to have:
        • For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, one of the following:
          • Associate degree in any field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
          • Bachelor's degree in non-related field and two or more years of relevant full-time equivalent approved, related paid or volunteer experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
          • Bachelor's degree in one of the below areas and one or more years of full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
          • Master's degree or higher in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field; including the completion of a supervised clinical field work training/internship (if required by degree program).
        • Note: The Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.
        • For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, Senior, one of the following:
          • Associate degree in any field and six or more years full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
          • Bachelor's degree in non-related field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
          • Bachelor's degree in one of the below areas and three or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.

        • Experience and ability to work with clients from a diverse population.
        • Excellent communication skills and well organized, detail oriented, strong writing skills and comfortable with evolving technology.
        • Knowledge of diversity and inclusion strategies with a focus on disparities reduction.
