- Minimum: Community college diploma (3-year)
- Or 5 years of equivalent working experience in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or similar.
- Technologist supporting multiple PIs in project experimental planning for resources, equipment and materials needs, scheduling, Operating Instructions (OI) reviews, Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) matters
- Utilize technical skills and knowledge to support experimental programs and lead a group of operators in completing tasks during pilot plant operations as well as to coach and mentor other team members so they can be effective contributors to the operations group
- Scale up Pilot Plant crew member and control room operator (knowledge of pilot plant operation both hands-on operation & materials handling as well as process control operation is an asset)
- Work within a technical project team and/or lead small special projects as an individual
- Previous experience to conduct hands-on work pertaining to polymerization/processing operations is an asset
- Experience with lab glassware experimental setups is an asset
- When needed, designing one-of specialized test set up, setting up the equipment, and conducting long term testing
- Becoming thoroughly familiar with site operational practices in the areas of EHS, maintenance and equipment support needs, sourcing of materials, shipping and receiving, chemical inventory management, aware of who/where to reach out to appropriate to issues at hand, process hazard analyzes, etc.
- Potential travel to Celanese sites, Supplier, Customer, and/or Toller facilities to support projects and manufacturing operations
- Strong documentation and communication skills that include both operating parameters and experimental observations as well as share findings to their team efficiently and effectively via verbally; written; presentations
- As the work continually evolves, flexibility will be required in terms of willingness to take on different work and to be flexible in work schedules (e.g., some periods of shiftwork or holidays/weekends may be required)

- Experience in Manufacturing, Maintenance, Process Laboratory, and/or Pilot Plant operation is an asset.

Chemical Technologist – Polyester Polymerization
Celanese Polymer Products Canada Company needs an Associate Investigator at their Kingston, ON polymerization hub within Technology & Innovation (T&I) in the Celanese Engineered Polymers Division. An Associate Investigator (AI) provides support to Scientists/Engineers by completing routine and non-routine experimental trials in pilot plants, process labs, and plant production areas. Kingston site executes polymerization/processing operations (e.g., autoclaves, compounding, extrusion, molding) and commonly used test procedures (physical, mechanical, heat ageing, chemical resistance) and analytical analyses for a variety of polymer chemistries.
We are looking for an energetic person that works well in a team environment, who is passionate about their work and highly motivated to achieve their goals and continuously expand their knowledge and experiences. This person will take on the role of Associate Investigator in a research organization focused on process and application development in the engineered materials sector requiring the willingness to be flexible and have a learn/teach mindset. In this role, the candidate will work with a technical team to conduct experimental programs in laboratory apparatus or in pilot plant processes to establish basic data for scale-up and product development.
The Process Technologist works in a lab setting and control room with a climate-controlled environment. They work with 4 to 5 other process technologists on a daily basis, as well as 42 other staff from other teams/departments, depending on the task or situation. The process technologist will run the pilot plan, interact with scientists, chemists, engineers using operating instructions. They will update procedures, will be a part of the committees and work on continuous improvement.
