The Department of Human Sciences Extension and Outreach at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for a part-time Program Assistant III position with the Iowa Obesity Program Leveraging Activities and Partnerships to Address Obesity (Iowa LEAP) project team.
This position will provide management and assistance to the project team in completing tasks related to the Iowa LEAP project. The project will address two key obesity-associated risk factors--poor diet and physical inactivity, in six of the high-obesity Iowa counties: Cedar, Clinton, Crawford, Franklin, Muscatine, and Pottawattamie by increasing access to healthy food and physical activity.
Responsibilities include working with project team members to conduct leadership training, networking meetings, and conference calls; provide technical assistance to project staff, regional project managers, and county staff on project planning, implementation, evaluation, and reporting; work as needed with regional community members to build coalition capacity and sustainability; and developing and maintaining national, regional, and state partnerships to leverage additional technical assistance, in-kind resources, and external funding.
This position will work closely with Dr. Lyndi Buckingham-Schutt to ensure ongoing coordination with CDC staff including post-award monitoring and reporting activities, monthly conference calls with the CDC, and participation in peer-sharing opportunities.
The successful candidate will be familiar with virtual meeting platforms, have written, oral communication and presentation skills and have user experience with Microsoft Office. The program assistant will provide program-level support for at least one year of the funding cycle with an opportunity for renewal for up to 5 years during award period. The primary office location for this position will be in Ames at Iowa State University campus with an option for hybrid remote work. It will require travel within Iowa.
Example of Duties
• Provides support to a program to ensure that implementation and prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with the objectives of the university.
• Assists with monitoring an internal project from initiation through completion.
• Prepares reports on the status of the various programs including stage of development, budget variance or completion dates.
• Performs some administrative tasks such as arranging meetings, developing agendas, and preparing progress reports.
