      • This position is open to currently enrolled students of SDSU or SDSU Alumni.

      The Institute for the Arts, Humanities, and Social Justice (IAHSJ) at San Diego State University is a collaboration of the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts and the College of Arts and Letters. The IAHSJ is an interdisciplinary hub for research, creative projects, and community engagement at the intersection of the arts, humanities, and social justice. The Institute seeks to interrupt systemic injustices in access to the arts and education through cultivating dialogue and collaboration among faculty, students, and partners with a goal of building bridges across the university and community. This position will support the coordinators of two programs within the IAHSJ, Prison Arts Collective (PAC) and VISTA (Valuing Incarcerated Scholars through Academia). PAC currently facilitates arts and leadership training programs in 15 state prisons throughout California. PAC is based at San Diego State University and has partnerships with California State University, Fullerton; Humboldt State University, and California State University, San Bernardino. SDSU-VISTA offers a two-year BA degree completion program at Centinela State Prison.

      Reporting to the Associate Director, the Program Assistant will provide support in the areas of program administration and day-to-day operations. The position will have both internal and external responsibilities, including assisting the ASC in the coordination of events and meetings, supporting program staff with administrative tasks, and ensuring smooth operations for the IAHSJ room on campus.

      • General administrative support for leadership team in the IAHSJ
      • Support the ASC in maintaining a welcoming space for the IAHSJ room on campus
      • Maintain PAC contacts and roles and ensure that all information for team is correct and updated
      • Assist team members with software/app issues by troubleshooting or escalating to SDSU IT specialist.
      • Update and maintain art and office supply inventory; anticipate needs based on google calendar and programming timelines
      • Assist IAHSJ teaching staff in printing, scanning, uploading, mailing programming materials as needed
      • Ensure that research forms are handled and stored appropriately under guidance of Admins Support Coordinator and research team
      • Prep IAHSJ space for group meetings and visitors as needed
      • Assist Administrative Support Coordinator in preparing reports as needed
      • Monitor PAC, VISTA, and IAHSJ general inboxes and office phone daily, forwarding inquiries to appropriate team members and ensuring they are addressed in a timely manner
      • Provide input and support for student interns on special projects

      Programs and Events
      • Support the marketing and communications team in the management of events both in the PAC room and in the community.
      • Provide support to Communications coordinator in helping build awareness of programs on campus and off.

      Qualifications

      Preferred Qualifications and Skills
      • Currently enrolled as an active SDSU student.
      • 2 years of experience working in an office, preferably within a university and/or non-profit, or similar experience.
      • Experience with Adobe office products, such as Adobe sign, pdf viewer and editor.
      • Experience with google suite preferred
      • Generally tech/app savvy and/or eager to learn
      • Willingness to collaborate effectively with a small, but active team
      • Must be resourceful, patient, flexible, detail-oriented, proactive and solution-oriented
      • Must be able to work independently on day to day tasks and with minimal supervision on projects


      Minimum Required Education
      • High school diploma or equivalent
      • Must be currently enrolled as a student at San Diego State University.

      Minimum Required Experience
      • Previous experience in an office or administrative environment
