- Proofreading electronic and print communications to ensure our high-level of quality and educational standards.
- Ensuring consistency in style, formatting and tone throughout our marketing publications, as well as accuracy of facts, figures and references as needed.
- Being our go-to for proofreading questions — you know that it’s Carmel Valley, the Galápagos Islands and Rekjavik.
- Reviewing fine print in large catalogs as well as brochures and other print materails.
- Working closely with the writer and production artist to ensure a perfect-finished product.
- Expertise with AP Style.
- Researching travel, aging and education-related topics to inform your proofing projects.
- Brainstorming creative ways to spread our mission.

- 2-5 years in a marketing or communications environment as a proofreader or editor
- Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, Marketing, public relations, journalism or related field
- Research, writing, editing and proofreading skills bordering on obsession
- Familiarity with marketing techniques, SEO, writing to a Baby Boomer audience and communications that support the Road Scholar brand
- Previous experience working within a creative environment, i.e., interacting synergistically with writers, graphic designers, web developers, etc.
- Self-motivated; strong organizational skills; an ability to work on multiple projects within a project management system; accountability for efficient project movement
- A quick study; ability to adapt readily to a fast-paced work environment
- Creative thinker and team player with good diplomatic, problem-solving and common-sense skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and Word

We’re Road Scholar, the not-for-profit leader in educational travel for older adults, and we’re looking to add a new part-time proofreader to our writing team. Don’t think of us as a travel company. We’re more like a university of the world, offering educational adventures in more than 100 countries.
About the role...
Our ideal candidate for this temporary assignment, is detail-oriented and a stickler for accuracy and tone, and thrives at juggling multiple projects within a deadline. If searching for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and typographical errors is your thing, then we’d love to meet you. Our participants are adventurous learners who read our publicatoins carefully—we have a lot to live up to! Whether you’re a seasoned editing pro or a profreader who loves to perfect an article, we’d love to have you join our team. This part-time, temporary role will be four hours a day, five days a week, for a total of 20 hours.
Road Scholar offers a remote-first work environment. This temporary role will be five hours a day, five days a week, for a total of 25 hours per week, paying an hourly rate at $30.00 per hour.
