Stretching from the dynamic neighbourhood of Streatham in the South to the iconic landmarks of Waterloo in the North, we are proud to be the 9th largest borough in London. Our diversity is our strength, with more than 130 languages spoken, making Lambeth the home of the Windrush generation, London's largest LGBTQ+ community, and a thriving Portuguese-speaking community.
With exceptional schools, lush green spaces including Brockwell Park, cultural gems like the Black Cultural Archives, and world-renowned institutions such as St Thomas's Hospital, Lambeth offers an enriching and dynamic environment.
The Council is embarking on an exciting transformation programme to help people who have been in long term temporary accommodation to move into a settled and stable home. We are looking for passionate and ambitious colleagues to join us on this journey, as we design and deliver services with people at their heart.
We are excited to announce an opportunity for two driven and resourceful individuals to join Lambeth’s dynamic new Temporary Accommodation Move On Team as lettings negotiators.
As someone experienced in lettings, you will be joining an ambitious team with a social purpose, negotiating with landlords to build a supply of rented properties which enable people to move into a settled home.
About the Team:
The number of Lambeth households in temporary accommodation has increased rapidly in recent years, as seen across London. We face a shared housing crisis and a limited supply of homes with which to help people. The significant cost of keeping households in temporary accommodation is increasing the pressure on council finances. In addition, we know that living in temporary accommodation for extended periods of time can impact people deeply, from their health and wellbeing to their relationships, education and access to employment.
At Lambeth we are investing in a newly formed Move On Team because we are determined to reverse this trend by supporting people into settled homes which provide them with the certainty and stability that is so needed, and to reduce the costs on the council budget.
Role overview
This role is an exciting opportunity to be part of building this new team and approach in Lambeth. You will join a well-established wider Leasing & Lettings Team but work specifically to find homes for people moving on from temporary accommodation.
The successful candidates will be passionate and motivated to support people out of homelessness. You will have strong people skills, an ability to build relationships and an ability to sell and market opportunities to landlords and agents.
You may have experience working in a local lettings agency with existing contacts, or a good understanding of the market and an eye for opportunities. You will be able to negotiate with landlords and agents, undertaking deals to secure homes and building trusted networks across different areas.
You will be purpose driven, ensuring that properties are suitable and meet standards, and that landlords understand their responsibilities for repairs and have respect for their tenants.
