- Emergency preparedness planning for public health and/or disaster events
- Principles, methods and techniques of conducting epidemiological field or other special investigations, scientific research, and disease surveillance and control methods
- Collect, organize, analyze and prepare technical reports on a variety of data
- Public and private health care organizations and industries and their relationships to public health activities and disease control
- Methods and techniques of evidence collection and evaluation, data analysis and technical reporting
- Thorough knowledge of epidemiological principles, methods and techniques
- Advanced biology, genetics, biochemistry, toxicology, food microbiology, anatomy, physiology and virology
- Pertinent Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations
- HIPAA laws and handling of privileged health/medical information
- Lead and coordinate epidemiologic response to illnesses and outbreaks
- Develop and/or refine epidemiologic response plan with local, State and Federal agencies
- Maintain a current knowledge of trends and developments in public health and infectious diseases
- Perform chemical/biological evidence collection, identification and analysis
- Organize and present evidence
- Evaluate a wide range of conventional and unconventional health conditions
- Work independently in the absence of supervision
- Prepare written and oral reports
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Multi-task and prioritize tasks as needed
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
Manage, coordinate and direct the environmental epidemiology and noise compliance programs in the Albuquerque area including disease surveillance and investigations, data management, analytical reporting, community outreach, environmental epidemiological studies and implementing prevention and control strategies.

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis. The six (6) required credit hours in specified courses below are not interchangeable.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in life science, social science, or public health; and
Seven (7) years of experience in applied public health or public health/medical research. Education must include six (6) credit hours in any of the following courses; genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, statistics, epidemiology courses or comparable subjects.
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, plus five (5) years of experience in applied public health, public health/medical research or related field preferred.
Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
