Who We Want

Mission: To ensure the academic, physical and emotional growth of San Francisco’s children and youth by assisting school sites in building their capacity to meet the needs of the whole child. The mission is aligned with SFUSD goals and priorities and evidenced in SHPD goals and objectives, which are implemented under the direction of the Director of School Health Programs Department. The role of the School Climate Coordinator is described below. As per Ed Code 44065, paraprofessional staff will not perform more that 50% of their job duties consisting of rendering service in directing, coordinating, supervising or administering any portion or all types of functions related to school health programs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor degree; credential and/or M.A. in counseling or related field preferred.
• Experience working in K-12 school setting;
• Experience collaborating with community based organizations and other city agencies;
• Experience providing case management, facilitating support groups, and counseling;
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, experience working with multidisciplinary teams, bicultural, bilingual a plus;
• Knowledge and experience with computers, including: word processing, data bases, and internet;
• Knowledge and experience working with Coordinated/Comprehensive School Health Model.\

Desired Qualifications

• This position’s primary focus is to assist refugee, immigrant and newcomer school age students, who have been in the U.S. five years or less, improve their academic performance and social adjustment through activities such as supplemental English language instruction, after-school tutoring programs, after-school/summer programs that support remedial work or promote school readiness, and parental involvement programs.
  
• Additionally, this position is charged with helping eligible families navigate institutional systems and structures to ensure they get connected with SFUSD resources and community services they need such as food, housing, immunizations, and immigration legal support to name a few.
  
• Spanish fluency (written and verbal) and BIPOC applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
  
• Three to five years of experience working with immigrant populations in direct services is preferred.
