- The post-holder will be a member of the team responsible for carrying out the Planned Preventative Maintenance, servicing and repair of a range of complex, multifaceted, patient-critical radiotherapy equipment in a manner which is safe, efficient, and effective with the minimum of down-time.
- The post-holder will receive in-service education and training from the team of electronic engineers and other providers.
- The post-holder will be required to move site as & when required to carry out supervised work on the major treatment equipment.
- The post-holder is responsible for carrying out all work in a safe and professional manner, in order to ensure the safety of patients, visitors and other members of staff.
- The post-holder will be supervised at all times until their competencies are signed off by a senior member of the team.
- BSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, or equivalent
- Relevant manufacturer's courses certificates
- An aptitude to working with advanced electronic equipment. Previous work in the health environment.
- Must have some practical experience working with advanced technology in the health environment.
- Will have experience in prioritising and managing own work and be able exercise initiative when dealing with issues within own specialist area of competence.
- An appreciation of the potential hazards posed by the production of ionising radiation.
- Applied to patient critical multifaceted Radiotherapy equipment
- Highly developed hand/eye co-ordination for the manipulation of fine tools, materials and parts used in the precision manufacture/assembly/testing of small and delicate parts, Integrated Circuits on Printed Circuit Boards.
- Knowledge of how this relates to equipment used in Radiotherapy
- BSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, or equivalent

Job summary
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Radiotherapy Electronics Engineer to participate in delivering a high quality maintenance & repair service to the Radiotherapy Service, based at Charing Cross Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of highly experienced engineers. You will be educated to B.Sc. degree level or equivalent in electronics/electrical engineering, with extensive experience working with radiotherapy linear accelerators.
Linacs are highly complex patient critical systems and our expert engineering team provides all maintenance and repairs, with no external manufacturer contracts, hence you will be working in a dynamic environment where each day can hold a multitude of challenges and opportunities to learn.
The department boasts fully equipped electronics and mechanical workshops to enable on site repairs and to assist in the development of bespoke projects, and provides a full range of radiotherapy scientific and technical services, including 3D-printing and a Clinical Scientific Computing Group. Major equipment includes 5 Varian TB linacs, a radiotherapy CT, a Flexitron unit and an X-Strahl unit.
