      Job summary

      We are looking for a full or part time receptionist to join our friendly team at Regal Chambers Surgery. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and flexible person who is keen to work to a high standard providing excellent patient care.

      The ability to listen and to have empathy, compassion and kindness towards patients and colleagues is essential. Applicants must be able to demonstrate excellent IT skills and strong communication skills with an ability to pay attention to detail. Excellent customer service skills are essential.

      Applicants must be able to work both independently and as part of a team being able to adapt to the changing day to day demands of working in a busy general practice setting.

      Previous experience of working in general practice or healthcare setting is desirable but not essential.

      Working hours are up to 37.5 hours per week; the successful candidate needs to be able to work Monday to Friday and cover shifts from 7.45 a.m. to 6.45 p.m.

      Reliable attendance and timekeeping are essential and some flexibility to cover different shifts when the need arises would be desirable.

      Main duties of the job

      The duties of a reception team member are many and varied. They include greeting patients, answering the telephone, booking appointments (via telephone and online requests), dealing with patient queries, directing patients to appropriate services, registering new patients, processing prescriptions, monitoring emails, liaising with external teams such as care homes, pharmacies, hospital, community teams etc and actioning administrative tasks from clinical staff

      The receptionist provides the first point of contact for all visitors. A key role is to ensure that all of the duties are carried out in a friendly, effective, efficient and highly professional manner whilst maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

      About us

      Regal Chambers Surgery is based in Hitchin, an old market town in Hertfordshire. We are a large practice and currently look after approximately 12,700 patients in Hitchin and the surrounding villages. The practice is owned by 6 GP Partners and is supported by a team of clinicians including Salaried GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Clinical Pharmacists and administrative staff.

      We are a teaching and training practice and train qualified doctors who wish to specialise in general practice and teach undergraduate medical students from Cambridge University.
