      AbilityPath and Via West are hiring Nurses for our camp for children and adults with disabilities!

      Nurses provide direct nursing care to campers and staff and respond to any urgent and emergent situations under the direct supervision of the Health Center Manager and/or Via West Director. To identify potential health risks and implement nursing care plans to reduce those risks. To provide basic health and safety training for all staff.

      Flexible schedule/ Per Diem/ housing available on site if needed

      Biweekly rate of $3600

      * Must have a valid CA RN license

      Camp Via West has been serving the Bay Area and beyond since 1945. Our camp is located on a beautiful 13.5 acre campus nestled in the Redwoods of Cupertino Foothills in California. We offer a wide variety of respite and innovative camp programming for children and adults with disabilities (autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and others) to learn new skills, develop meaningful relationships, build confidence and more all while enjoying the great outdoors! Camp Via West became affiliated with Abilitypath as of July 1st 2022 making us one of the largest providers of services for individuals with disabilities

      ABOUT THE ROLE:

      Complete health screenings of campers and staff as assigned.
      Provide medical assessment and care for staff and campers within your scope of practice, using the Standardized Procedures signed by the camp affiliated Licensed Healthcare Provider (LHP).
      Manage medications for campers and staff, including but not limited to:
      Safeguarding, organizing, and storing medications; proper disposal of unused medications
      Preparing and administering campers routine medications by mouth and via G-tube
      Interpreting and following prescriptions from a Licensed Healthcare Provider
      Dispensing Over the Counter (OTC) medications to campers and staff, per LHP orders
      Evaluating effects of medication, including therapeutic effects, side effects, and allergic reactions
      Documenting all medication activity in the camps Electronic Health Record (EHR)
      Supervise and instruct Health Center Nurse Interns during clinical assessments, dispensing medications and other Health Center activities.
      Document all health center visits and the care in the EHR.
      Manage all Health Center supplies
      Maintaining a clean and organized storage area and workspace
      Provide targeted health-related educational programs for staff, Nurse Interns, and campers.
      Complete accident/incident reports to be used for risk management purposes.
      In partnership with the Health Center Manager and Via West Director, notify parents/ caregivers/ emergency contacts of health incidents regarding staff and campers as outlined in the Health Center Policies and Procedures.
      Share night call (2200-0700) with other RN. (LVN supervised by Health Center Manager by phone).
      Maintain the Health Center and equipment in a functional, sanitized state through routine safety checks, cleaning and disinfection.
      Support the mental, emotional, and community health of the camp through collaborative risk management, teaching, screening and active listening, and appropriate referrals.
      Identify, communicate, and help to mitigate camp health and safety risks.

      EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

      Minimum experience and qualifications:

      At least 18 years of age (required)

      Active California RN or LVN license or California License by Endorsement, in good standing (required)
      Current Red Cross CPR and First Aid Certification (required)
      Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (required)
      Lifeguard Certification- helpful, but not required
      Experience working with people with disabilities and their families in a medical setting (preferred)
      Camp experience, as a nurse, counselor, or participant (preferred)
      Experience working with children and families in an outpatient or inpatient setting

      Other desirable experience and qualifications:

      Willing to live and work in a rustic residential community camp for six days a week.
      Willing to provide teaching and support to Nurse Interns and the camp community; able to follow the nursing delegation process appropriately.
      Able to analyze problems, communicate essential facts to relevant parties, collaborate, and think critically in both routine and emergency situations.
      Willing to learn from and adapt to the needs and communication preferences of campers with various disabilities.

      HIRING REQUIREMENTS:

      Valid California Drivers License/ID
      Clean Driving Record (if applicable)
      Proof of negative TB test results
      Proof of TDAP
      Verification of physical clearance
      Passing a criminal fingerprint clearance
      18 years of age or job permit clearance
      Verification of eligibility to work in the US

      PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:

      Ability to lift 40 pounds and to assist with transfers from bed to wheelchair etc.

      Ability to sit, stand, stoop, and bend frequently; ability to participate in camp activities.
