- Six weeks (30 days) of paid annual leave per year + additional paid Christmas stand down

- Provision of high-level advice, education and information on health and wellbeing through regular engagement with Command and employees. Liaison with the General Practitioner and other health care professionals
- Facilitation of case coordination within multi-disciplinary team and support of return to work health planning
- Contribution to the monitoring, evaluation and development of health services being delivered to the AFP, through quality improvement.
- Facilitation of Health assessments – prior to employment or commencement of a high risk role
- Conducting general health checks and provision of education and advice to appointees regarding their health and management of any identified health risks or conditions
- Coordination of pre and post-deployment health assessments and determination of ongoing health risks. Development and implementation of health risk controls for staff deployed internationally by following medical standards to develop health risk assessment, support plans, vaccination protocols and travel health advice and education
- Monitoring and identification of AFP health trends and conducting health cluster analysis, status reporting and research
- Identifying emerging health risks and preparation of risk treatment options and plans as required.
- Effective health record management
- You must be an Australian Citizen at time of application
- A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain
- Current Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) General Registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1)
- Minimum three years practice and contemporary experience and knowledge in one or more of the following fields:
- Occupational Health,
- Practice nursing,
- Corrections health,
- Travel medicine,
- Public health,
- Community health.
- Current First Aid & CPR certification, or ability to obtain
- Availability to undertake domestic travel (if required)
- Maintenance of required qualifications
- Maintenance of currency in subject matter expertise through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities as per AHPRA requirements
- Ability to quickly establish effective and authentic rapport
- Demonstrated high level emotional intelligence
- Ability to be on-call (rotational basis)
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and deliver against business outcomes
- Current valid Australian drivers licence
- Post graduate certification in one of fields listed above in essential requirements

What is the role?
Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Registered Nurse, SHIELD.
The Registered Nurse role will provide specialist medical and health advice and support to AFP employees. The role will work closely with internal and external health service providers to ensure the provision of specialist advice and provide support to patients with a focus on achieving positive health outcomes.
The role undertakes a range of health activities and contributes to the wellbeing and safety of employees. This role provides specialist medical and health advice and support to AFP employees and will assist in the development of medical and health promotion initiatives and compliance of existing policies and procedures.
You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

Additional Information
The AFP Registered Nurse positions are located in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide (part-time only) and Darwin (part-time only). There are no current ongoing vacancies in any of these locations, however, there are current temporary vacancies in Adelaide and Sydney. This recruitment process will be used to create a merit pool for each location that will be used to fill any future vacancies that may occur over the next 12 months.
These roles do have flexibility for part-time work and/or job share arrangements, however, there is limited ability for work from home arrangements given the role requirements. Remote work arrangements are not possible.
