Job Description
- Req#: 1039621
- University Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, GIS, Health Information Science, or other related fields, and at least 3 years of related experience.
- Experience leveraging various data sources to conduct quantitative analysis.
- Experience determining appropriate use of various statistical methods, including consideration of sampling, model evaluation, bias and error.
- Familiarity with machine learning, clustering and classification techniques to analyze diverse sources of data.
- Experience communicating results of analysis for the purpose of decision making.
- Willing to keep up to date with cutting-edge techniques in machine-learning and big data analytics and find ways to advance the organization’s capabilities in analytics.
- Willingness and ability to learn new technologies on the job.
- Experience working with programming language(s) for data manipulation and analysis, such as SQL, SAS, R, or Python.
- Experience working with large data sets is preferred.
- Experience conducting analysis with administrative health data is preferred.

The Health Sector Information, Analysis and Reporting Division (HSIAR) sets the foundation for the delivery of high-quality health sector information, analytics and reporting. The Division leads key information management functions including data stewardship, governance, security, access, analytics and reporting, quality assurance, performance measurement and evaluations functions.
The Data Scientist is the expert analyst for large scale, complex projects which are significant in terms of government priorities and have unique requirements. This position applies expert advice and knowledge pertaining to all overarching data science to unique business scenarios.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
