      Summary of Job Duties:

      The Research Assistant will coordinate technical, financial, procurement, and training activities of the DNA and Next Generation Sequencing Core facility. Primary duties include overseeing the day-to-day operation of the facility, and they will also operate the core instrumentation and analyze data related to customer requests for internal and external research projects.


      Qualifications:

      • Master's degree in chemistry, biology, microbiology, statistics or related field plus one (1) years of research experience or

      • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, microbiology, statistics or related field plus three (3) years of research experience required.

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

      • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.

      • Must be proficient in routine Microsoft Office products.

      • Must have a basic knowledge of equipment used in a research laboratory.

      • Should be capable of making chemical reagents.

      • Ability to keep organized records and notes needed.

      • Prior experience on molecular biology.

      • Knowledge of software and experience analyzing and interpreting data using various software programs.

      Physical Requirements:

      Able to move and clean pieces of laboratory equipment and needs to be reasonably active and able to be on their feet approximately 20% of the day.


      Additional Information:

      Responsibilities:

      • Manage and operate a campus DNA and Next Generation Sequencing Core facility utilized by over 100 internal and external researchers.

      • Maintain and operate core instruments, perform analyses requiring specialized training analyzing and interpreting results.

      • Develop new protocols and methods for operating, maintaining and improving data analysis and daily operation of the core.

      • Establish and maintain positive working relationships and collaborations with all researchers utilizing the core facility.

      • Perform data analysis of samples and prepare data for publication and presentations.

      • Educate researchers on interpretation of data.

      • Discuss and evaluate results with researchers and troubleshoot with researchers to improve methods and results.

      • Provide consultation for experimental design for facility users.

      • Assist with billing for services rendered and entering services into customer database to track researcher usage and needs.

      • Maintain an on-line scheduling system for appointments and analysis.

      • Assist the Flow Cytometry Core personnel as needed.

      • Perform other duties as assigned.
