Job Description

- Handling, dissecting, imaging, and mechanical testing of cadaveric tissues
- Custom programming of robotic manipulator for novel testing protocols
- Working closely with surgeons and scientists in organizing, managing, and conducting research projects
- Maintaining lab hardware and software
- Imaging and image processing of patient and cadaveric tissues
- Data collection and interpretation
- Preparing, organizing, and maintaining documentation of test protocols and equipment
- Designing custom jigs and fixtures for novel testing set-ups
- Assisting principal investigators in manuscript and abstract preparation
- Developing protocols for Institutional Review Board review, laboratory studies, and code documentation
- Presenting updates at internal departmental and group meetings and at national scientific meetings
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
- Independently motivated and excited by the prospect of taking on new challenges
- Ability to rapidly learn new skills to solve problems in a dynamic and evolving work environment
- Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Willing to help train students, orthopaedic residents, and clinical fellows
- Demonstrated expertise in using software such as MATLAB, Labview, FEBIO, and Abaqus
- Familiarity with software tools (e.g., MIMICS) for image processing and 3D reconstruction of medical image data from MRI and CT
- Familiarity with statistics and data analytics
- Experience in mechanical testing using servohydraulic test frames and robotic manipulators
- Mechanical design and prototyping experience using software tools such as SolidWorks
- Experience using motion capture technology and associated 3D kinematic analysis software

Research Engineer II
Biomechanics
Full-Time 9am-5pm
Overview:
We have an opening for a master’s level mechanical or biomedical engineer. The position involves multidisciplinary, team-based research focusing on the biomechanics of treatment for the most challenging cases in joint reconstruction using computational (e.g., finite element analysis) and experimental methods. The research is conducted through close collaboration with our surgical colleagues and with the approval of the Director and the Research Director of the Complex Joint Reconstruction Center.

Qualifications
A bachelor’s level engineer with at least two years of experience working in industry or in a research laboratory will also be considered.
