      Job Description:

      The Retail Associate's primary goal is to assist visitors and customers of Omega Mart's gift shop and provide an excellent level of customer service. This job entails using a POS to make sales, use a cash register and handle cash and provide change to customers. Omega Mart's Retail Associate also helps keep the gift shop clean, restocks items, and organizes storage areas, as well as assisting the gift shop team with special tasks that include data entry, compiling gift shop items for giveaways, and conducting inventory counts. The Retail Associate will also need to maintain an in-depth knowledge of a wide variety of items being sold in the gift shop.

      How you will do it…

      • Welcome guests to the exhibition and/or gift shop and answer their questions

      • Perform job responsibilities with a creative flair that elevates the exhibition narrative

      • Deliver a memorable guest experience through exceptional customer service

      • Monitor crowds and assist with crowd control to ensure the safety of guests and staff

      • Remain knowledgeable on products offered and discuss available options

      • Maintain in-stock and presentable conditions throughout the gift shop

      • Process POS (point of sale) purchases and merchandise returns

      • Receive product and stock the sales floor including: processing incoming shipments, merchandising products, re-stocking displays, etc.

      • Comply with inventory control procedures

      • Report emergencies to the manager

      • Respond to injuries and emergencies appropriately

      • Collaborate with other team members to create and maintain a pleasant environment for guests

      To be successful in this role…

      • A desire to work directly with and talk to the public.

      • A welcoming demeanor.

      • 18 years of age or older.

      • Ability to learn point of sale systems.

      • Ability to follow and enforce safety rules.

      • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays .

      • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations

      • Ability to adapt to changes in a fast paced work environment

      • High school diploma or equivalent

      • At least one year of retail or customer service experience

      It would be nice to have…

      • An interest in the arts

      • Dual language skills, especially but not limited to English and Spanish

      • Prior work experience in a retail, museum, park, recreation facility, or other public space.

      • Prior experience with point-of-sale systems.

      • Familiarity with inventory procedures.

      • Hidden talents that can be employed as part of the persona including singing, dancing, magic, comedy, conversationalist, impersonator or otherwise.

      Work environment & physical demands…

      This position works primarily in an indoor setting with exposure to noisy environments, dim lighting, strong visual effects including strobing lights, special effects, fog machines and small and/ or enclosed spaces. May require work outdoors for special events or critical functions. Physical ability to walk, stand, take stairs/slides/elevators, and navigate the elements during the day and night. Employee may be required to lift up to 20lbs. Employee may be required to repeat motions that can include wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
