At Manhattan Beer Distributors, our vision is to be the leading beer distributor in the market.

Imagine building a business from the ground up, with nothing more than 1 truck, 4000 feet of warehouse space, 2 Beer Brands and a lot of determination! Simon Bergson, founder and owner of Manhattan Beer Distributors, has done exactly this, growing our business over the last 40 years to exponential heights. Manhattan Beer Distributors now has 1.5 million feet of warehouse space over five facilities, the distribution rights to 300 brands, 400 trucks and services 15 counties. Our aim is to provide great service to all of our customers from the convenience store owner to our big chain operators, restaurants, bars and hotels.

How Will You Contribute?

Ensuring that the company’s assets are protected from significant/material or catastrophic loss is key to business continuity. In this role, it is critical to collaborate with ownership to establish risk tolerance levels and protect against those uncertainties in an economically viable manner. The Manager of Risk Management spearheads these initiatives, as well as risk management and loss. This position collaborates with the Director of Safety to assist our efforts to keep our most valuable asset, our employees, along with other assets, safe.

Main Focus

• Develop risk management goals and objectives.
• Implement risk management and loss scorecards.
• Collect, analyze and interpret safety and loss data, identifying trends and potential exposure.
• Collaborate with brokers, insurance carriers, safety engineers and risk consultants to ensure Manhattan Beer Distributors is current with industry standards.
• Offer suggestions to better practices with regards to safety and risk management.
• Coordinate with Brokers to secure proposals and bids for all insurance carriers to ensure Manhattan Beer Distributors is adequately protected in the event of loss.
• Oversee certain aspects of claims management including adjustment, litigation, and resolution staying within the boundaries of company policies and practices.
• Develop insights to improve MOD rates for worker’s compensation.
• Raise awareness of occupational risk factors through analytics.
• Oversee preparation of the insurance budget.

Position Requirements:

• Bachelors in applicable field desired. Advanced degree is a plus.
• Lean/CI/Six Sigma designations are a strong plus.
• Background in consumer goods, distribution, food or beverage preferred, as well as experience working in a union environment.
• 5+ years of experience in safety, corporate risk management and claims.
• Experience personally managing claims.
• Strong familiarity with information systems, including how to mine data and create actionable reports.
• Superior written and verbal communications skills.
• Outstanding project management and organizational ability.
• Ability to build strong collaboration across departments.

Salary: $115,000.00-$125,000.00

It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
