Job Description

- Ensure ROOTS Employment and Social Supports outcomes are achieved
- Provide direct supervision to the ROOTS Team
- Oversee and deliver person-centered case management services to returning citizens
- Maintain and develop new employer and community partnerships
- Work with program staff to coordinate appropriate referrals to community partners including Community Mental Health, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Michigan Works!, and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services
- Provide intensive support to program participants during their first 90 days employment and make recommendations for needed interventions to promote vocational success
- Maintain an accurate record of participant services, progress, and engagement
- Maintain an accurate record of all financial supports provided to participants
- Complete monthly reporting requirements according to City of Lansing guidelines
- Ensure regular communication with parole/probation officers to coordinate support services and program activities
- Assist program participants in developing an individualized program plan in consideration of their vocational goals, strengths, interests, functional limitations, other job accommodations, and community needs
- Lead CBI-EMP skills classes to prepare returning citizens for their adjustment into the community and workforce
- Develop and maintain community employment placements and complete follow up support
- Coordinate transition from prison to community with ROOTS Team
- Ensure case files for program participants are up to date and accurate
- Communicate with community agencies and provide information about community resources to enhance support services for program participants
- Ensure orientation sessions for new program participants are timely and beneficial
- Work with an interdepartmental team to monitor participants’ progress and enhance the quality of services provided
- Research and build resources and team knowledge to help Team Members navigate community resources and internal resources so they can develop independence and self-sustainability
- May attend community and Peckham events throughout the year
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment
- Assist in the training of people with disabilities as needed
- Promote Peckham’s vision, values, and services with highest integrity and ethics to all customers and stakeholders
- Assist in maintaining organization wide quality standards
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned
- Responsible for direct supervision, mentoring, coaching, and managing performance of ROOTS Staff.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy cultural diversity in the workplace
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) required and 0-2 years of related experience
- Or 4-6 years of related experience
- Minimum of 2 years Job Development experience
- Must have understanding of public policy and applicable human resources laws
- Ability to research and build resources through community partners and Peckham programs
- Clear understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Proficiency in, or ability to learn OnTime and Workday, or another HRIS system
- Ability to maintain and keep strict confidentiality
- This position requires passing and maintaining federal and state security background checks

Peckham Inc. - ROOTS Employment Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Rising Out Of The System (ROOTS) program consists of two contracts with the City of Lansing to provide employment services and social supports to individuals on Parole and Probation as referred by the Michigan Department of Corrections. The ROOTS Coordinator is responsible for contract outcomes and direct staff supervision. This person will develop new and maintain existing relationships with community partners including the City of Lansing, MDOC, all Offenders Success vendors, Local One Stops, and Employers. This person will assist the ROOTS Team in providing case management, job placement and retention services, crisis intervention, individualized coaching, CBI-EMP Skills classes, and social support service delivery. The ROOTS Coordinator will work with Peckham’s Reentry Services Manager to complete accurate and timely reports. This individual will pull together internal and external resources to provide the best support possible.
