      A Sales Development Engineer at Cognex is not your ‘traditional’ Sales Development role. An SDE at Cognex incorporates exposure to multiple facets of our business such as Product Marketing, Engineering, Technical Support, and Outside Sales. An SDE will work cross-functionally with Marketing on strategy and lead generation campaigns, occasionally travel to sales territories to shadow experienced sales engineers for the customer-facing experience; and will work on various funnel generation projects within various business units.

      High performers in this role often develop into other areas of our business including Technical Sales and Product Marketing. During your time in the Sales Development role you will learn the following tools:

      • Extensive Cognex product knowledge

      • Prospecting and identifying target customers and executing outbound campaigns

      • Hands on application and demo training

      • Cognex proven sales process

      • How to leverage our value proposition and commercial benefits of our products

      Essential Functions:

      • Qualify inbound Marketing and Sales leads utilizing proven sales strategies to create sales funnel

      • Outbound communications to create and capture opportunities from strategic targets

      • Develop technical command of the diverse Cognex product portfolio through extensive hands-on training.

      • Research and contact key target accounts based on information discovered.

      • Set priorities and advance sales opportunities with respective Sales team members/leaders.

      • Build cross-department relationships and lines of communication.

      • Manage project-creation activities in the CRM database.

      • Contribute feedback to Marketing and Sales effectiveness and efficiency initiatives.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      • Perform with a results-oriented, pro-active mentality to move fast and meet goals

      • Engineering or manufacturing backgrounds and knowledge with attention to detail is required.

      • Engaging verbal and written communication skills both in person and over the phone in essential

      • Well versed in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

      • Good listening, note-taking, and de-briefing skills are required.

      Minimum education and work experience:

      • Bachelor’s degree is required; Concentration in Technical or Engineering track (i.e. Computer Science, Electrical)

      • Customer facing experience within a highly-technical hardware or software engineering and manufacturing company is a plus.

      • Proven ability to understand business objectives and achieve goals; required.
