Job summary
City and Hackney GP Confederation is recruiting a second General Practice Nursing Vocational Training Scheme Co-ordinator, on behalf of the North East London Integrated Care System, to lead the planning and organisation of the North East London General Practice Nursing Vocational Training Scheme. This scheme is a new development for primary care nursing in North East London and is central to our primary care nursing delivery plan.
We are looking for an experienced General Practice Nurse to support and co-ordinate the scheme on a day-to-day basis, focussing on making it a success for participating nurses, clinical mentors and practices. Liaising with scheme participants, clinical mentors/supervisors, Practice Managers, employers, and City, University of London, the postholder will ensure that the scheme meets its objectives and be able to report on progress across the North East London ICS.
The successful candidate will work across the following Integrated Care System place-based systems, Waltham Forest, Redbridge and Barking Havering and Dagenham. Between the two co-ordinator posts, cover for all scheme participants and their practices will be provided across the North East London ICS geography.
This is a part-time role for 4 days/30 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will need to be organised, with an ability to develop and maintain effective record keeping systems, manage competing demands, have good computer skills, excellent people skills and be an excellent communicator. The post holder will be required to maintain constructive relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Working collaboratively with the other Scheme Co-ordinator, you will drive the development of the scheme, including identifying new placements and new opportunities for the GPN VTS to expand into.

The successful candidate will work with another Scheme Co-ordinator and will work across the following Integrated Care System place-based systems, Waltham Forest, Redbridge and Barking Havering and Dagenham. Between the two co-ordinator posts, cover for all scheme participants and their practices will be provided across the North East London ICS geography.
You will join a small, friendly and very committed primary care nursing team, and will take part in regular team meetings. You will receive regular supervision from your line manager.

The key elements of the role will be:
To ensure regular contact and liaison is maintained with the trainee VTS nurses participating in the programme;
To ensure regular contact and liaison is maintained with the employing GP practices and the GPN mentors/clinical supervisors;
To be responsible for the oversight of training and development activities within the GPN VTS;
To be responsible for the organisation of larger training events within the GPN VTS programme that can be extended to existing GPNs in support of their ongoing development;
To establish and maintain reporting systems to support regular reporting of progress.
Supporting the VTS trainees in practice, including signing off competencies and completion of external assessments where appropriate.
Supporting practices, educational mentors and scheme participants to address issues that arise with placements.
Promoting the Career opportunities for GPNs as they exit the scheme
Key Responsibilities:
1. To be the main point of contact for the GPN VTS trainees taking part in the scheme to ensure that the trainees receive effective support and information during the programme.
2. To be the main point of contact for the practices hosting a GPN VTS trainee and to liaise regularly with the GPN educational supervisors and mentors in the host practices to ensure that they receive effective support and information during the programme.
3. To be responsible for ensuring that GPN VTS Trainees are attending organised study days at City, University of London.
4. Identify areas that the GPN VTS trainee requires further practical training in and arrange for this to be delivered, arranging the training and development activities and elements of the programme in line with the University programme. This will include arranging speakers/trainers, booking rooms, developing course materials, and being responsible for all the arrangements to ensure that all the training elements of the programme are well organised and run smoothly.
5. To provide support to the NEL primary care and workforce team, NEL and local training hubs including regular reporting on the delivery of the scheme.
6. To be responsible for reporting on progress during the year programme, and to develop and maintain the project library, filing, recording and reporting systems. Reporting to the primary care nursing team and reports to the appropriate training hub will be required, including regular budget reporting on the use of the project funding.
7. To recommend to the NEL primary care nursing team any improvements and changes when required to support delivery of the programme.
8. To process routine project correspondence.
9. To manage other administrative tasks associated with the GPN VTS scheme as and when they arise, and to be a first point of call for problem solving issues as they arise.
10. To contribute to the development of feedback and evaluation work in relation to the GPN VTS.
11. To participate in the organisation of a further GPN VTS for 2025, including managing the validation of training practices.
12. To provide support to the clinical education mentors for the scheme, ensuring there is an effective interface between the University, the Confederation and the practices.
13. To liaise with GP practices and other primary care providers as employers to establish an understanding of the needs and aspirations of their primary care nursing workforce.
14. To focus on creating excellent soft knowledge about the needs of local nurses and employers and assist in building an understanding of the opportunities open to staff and employers alike, building a culture that supports recruitment and retention.
