      Primary Purpose:

      To provide ongoing professional staff development and information to the Center for Safe and Secure Schools (Center) external members, customers, and other educational institutions regarding how to implement Multi-Tiered Systems to support schools in the development of positive school climate, classroom management, social and emotional skills development, restorative practices, and behavioral intervention processes.

      Qualifications:

      Education/Certification:

      • Master’s degree preferred or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field
      • National Incident Management System (NIMS) Certification or the ability to obtain certification within one year
      • Mental Health and First Aid Instructor recognition or the ability to obtain certification within one year
      • Restorative Practices Trainer or the ability to obtain recognition within one year

      Special Knowledge/Skills:

      • Ability to develop, edit and deliver school safety initiatives utilizing multimedia formatting tools
      • Ability to conduct school safety assessments and work with campus administrators in improving safety and school climate in educational environments
      • Sound knowledge of student complications and suitable change strategies for resolving them
      • Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and team building skills
      • Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision and support multiple teams
      • Strong public speaking, presentation, and media relations skills
      • Knowledge of evidence-based behavior management systems that promote and foster a positive learning and teaching environment
      • Ability to act as a resource to educational institutions on school violence prevention, crime prevention and other issues that prevent the maintenance of a safe and secure educational environment
      • Outstanding knowledge of child development, grief and trauma, social and emotional learning theory, cultural diversity, and experience implementing restorative practices at the campus level

      Experience:

      • Three to five years of school-based experience working with adolescents and youth in an urban setting with a focus on social, emotional, and experience providing behavioral support for students in need of intervention preferred
      • Experience delivering evidence-based social, emotional or behavioral interventions at the campus level or another agency working with problematic youth
      • School-based administrative experience in an educational or related setting preferred
      • Experience implementing evidence-based behavior management systems that promote and foster a positive learning and teaching environment would be an asset
