Job Title : Scrum Master II
Job Location : Houston, TX 77002
Duration : 12 Months Contract
Description:
• This position is truly a blend of Scrum Master, Business Analyst, Project Manager, Release Manager, and Subject Matter Expert roles.
• 2 resources are needed to assist the current team with work being done in various domains.
• The Scrum Master title was chosen as this is roughly 40-50% of what the position entails as opposed to more BA or PM-focused skill sets.
• Manager currently has 4 employees who report to her directly that are truly the Scrum Masters, Release Managers, SMEs, PMs, and Client for their respective domains.
• Selected resources will split 4 domains/analysts, supporting 2 domains/analysts each – must be comfortable in more of a support role!
Release Manager
• Create RFCs, essentially setting up whole releases within a given domain.
• Document what the release is, what is involved, who will action it, etc.
• Complete administrative tasks surrounding release (i.e. paperwork, adding to Outlook calendars, obtaining and providing bridge info, etc.)
• Oversee releases and ensure steps are followed.
• Regular deployments occur (non-CSL).
• For CSL platform application releases –
o Gather what information goes into any given CSL release.
o Send out release notes after CSL releases (and all releases), providing information about what needs to be documented.
Scrum Master
• During scrum, review work items (i.e. what was completed yesterday, what is being completed today, what the challenges are, etc.) – make sure everyone is on task.
• Resources will focus more on administrative aspects of the Scrum Master position, managing work items in TFS, making sure they are updated to show correct duration, the iteration in which they will be worked, when they are planned to be deployed, when they close out, that anything unfinished is moved to the next iteration, managing boards for scrum, etc.
o Current team does not have the bandwidth to do everything a Scrum Master does, so resources will track closely what developers say will be delivered by a certain date.
• This group has a robust iteration planning process, and one current team member is the Iteration Manager who schedules iteration meetings and drives the process.
o Resources expected to get involved, tracking priorities, completing work to stay on task and on track, ensuring documentation needed is in place, that tasks are opened and correctly assigned in TFS, and will help with getting any obstacles developers run into addressed.
• Not looking for a Certified Scrum Master, just someone who knows the terrain and how it works.
Project Manager
• Every domain is involved in several projects.
• Heavily engaged in deliverables, documenting, engaging, and tracking deliverables in TFS.
• Current team is very much in need of project plans – something very fundamental as they do not currently exist – and would greatly benefit from the creation of simple project plans.
• Sequence and assist in managing dependencies – not a lot of meeting minutes or status reports entailed, but more capturing information and updating TFS items with relevant updates and timing.
Business Analyst
• Ensure there are requirements in place and/or engage with requesting teams as appropriate to identify where requirements gaps need to be addressed.
• Coordinate with business partners to gather the information required in order to understand deliverables and associated timelines.
Additional Notes
• Years of experience not as important as being able to take on and perform the functions of the role.
• Potential for growth and taking on higher level activities.
• Must be sharp and flexible to performing a mixture of tasks.
