      Under direction, to plan, organize, administer, and manage the Environmental Services programs of the Health and Hospital System.

      • Manages environmental services programs including budget, purchasing, personnel, records, procedures analysis, policy development and office management;
      • Establish standards and work procedures for the environmental services staffs in accord with established policies;
      • Initiates and maintains quality assurance policies and procedures for effectiveness and efficiency, initiating changes as necessary to ensure compliance with laws, rules, and regulations of accrediting hospital bodies;
      • Plans work schedules and assigns hours and areas to insure adequate service for all areas of the Health and Hospital System campus and satellite facilities;
      • Establishes standards related to productivity and performance levels, and monitors compliance and reports regularly;
      • Conducts research and studies to improve environmental services technology, supplies and equipment and makes recommendations for purchases after completing analyses;
      • Interview, selects, hires, trains, evaluates and determines retention of personnel supervision;
      • Inspects and evaluate the physical condition of the hospital in order to recommend painting, repairs, and furnishings or replacements and makes corrective safety recommendations;
      • Serves on the Infection Control and other committees, as requested;
      • Confers with the Infection Control Nurse on matters related to infection control, and develops and implements appropriate procedures for infection control;
      • Acts as liaison with representatives of regulatory agencies in matters pertaining to the departments supervised;
      • Assumes other related responsibilities as assigned.
      Sufficient education, training, and experience to demonstrate the ability to perform the above tasks and possession and application of the following knowledge and abilities.

      Experience Note:
      The knowledge and abilities required to perform this function are typically acquired through possession of a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Public Administration or a related field and five (5) years of increasingly responsible management experience in housekeeping services in an institutional setting.

      OR

      Possession of an Associate's degree and seven (7) years of increasingly responsible management experience in housekeeping services in an institutional setting.

      Possession of a valid certificate from the National Housekeeper's Association, Society for Healthcare Environmental Services or completion of an accredited course in institutional housekeeping is desirable.

      Knowledge of:
      • Principles and methods of office management and program record keeping;
      • Principles and methods of business administration and environmental services applicable to hospital and health care facilities including the subjects of budget preparation, personnel and labor relations, and fiscal management;
      • Administrative research and survey techniques;
      • Basic principles of accounting;
      • Institutional housekeeping automation and productivity tracking systems, processes, equipment, and materials;
      • Principles of supervision and training;
      • Federal, State, and TJC (The Joint Commission) regulations affecting environmental services.

        Ability to:
      • Administer and manage the housekeeping and laundry operations in a large hospital and clinics;
      • Learn and apply the Health and Hospital System's policies, regulations, and administrative procedures pertaining to environmental services;
      • Work independently in identifying and analyzing problems, evaluating alternatives and devising solutions in the context of the environmental services programs, and recommending changes in policy or operations;
      • Prepare reports relating to environmental service operations;
      • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing;
      • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of Health and Hospital System employees and others encountered in the course of business.
