Reporting to the Director of Security, through the Security Operations Manager and Security Shift Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for the protection of personnel and University property for the three Halifax campuses (Carleton, Sexton and Studley).Key Responsibilities
- Security patrols by foot, automobile and bicycle
- Provides monitoring of fire and burglar alarms
- Provides initial response to fire, burglar alarms, medical emergencies, disturbances and/or suspicious/criminal activities
- Provides traffic and parking enforcement
- Under the direction of a Security Shift Supervisor, participates in VIP detail
- Collects, escorts, transports and/or delivers various documents, deposits and/or personnel
- Provides key control
- Provides information and services to various University departments
- Sale and issue of parking permits
- Provides first aid and/or emergency assistance in cases of accident or injury involving any student, employee or visitor(s) to the University
- Exercises discretion and confidentiality in relation to University and Security Services matters
- Maintain an operational knowledge of a sophisticated electronic access control system
- Enforcement of municipal by-laws related to parking enforcement and the initial investigation of provincial statute and criminal code offences
- Response to incidents of assault, sexual assault, attempt/threatened suicide, theft, break and enter, property damage, liquor offences and crowd management with the accurate recording of all incidents attended
- Requirement to offer sworn testimony in court
- Provide 24 hour access and referral to emergency University services
- Requirement to liaise effectively with local jurisdiction police agencies
- Performs other duties as requiredNote
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.Required Qualifications
- Grade 12 and graduate from an accredited law enforcement / security training academy
- Previous security experience an asset
- Ability to maintain certification in Defensive Tactics programs and conflict mediation
- Familiar with Windows basics
- Good oral and written communication skills essential
- Must possess a valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and be willing to provide an up to date driver’s abstract
