      About Our Job

      Denver City Council is hiring for a full-time Senior Accountant. This position is at-will and located at the City and County Building.

      The Senior Accountant duties will include:

      • Process and send out customer invoices in a timely manner while also ensuring that the billings on those invoices are accurate

      • Answer and resolve internal and external customer account and billing inquiries

      • Review and analyze moderately complex contract documents, review and process contract invoices for payment and ensure supporting documents are included and are accurate

      • Perform other assignments using established and defined procedures, methods and techniques, and receive instruction in the interpretation and application of appropriate fiscal laws, rules, regulations, and procedures. Assist in responding to internal and external audit requests for information

      • Assist with conducting special projects regarding financial transactions by researching and analyzing accounting issues, performing financial calculations, and creating reports by compiling supporting documents for management review

      • Ensure compliance and maintenance of fiscal accountability in relation to rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Work with Department of Finance Controller’s Office to resolve discrepancies or problems

      • Review and approve invoices for payment, ensure contract rates and terms are accurate

      • Assist office with purchasing activities such as requisitions and reconciliation of the same, and invoicing process policy and execution

      • Review, administer, and process Purchase Change Orders, enter budget amendments, fund projects, in Workday

      • Run reports, analyze data, and prepare monthly reports for management

      • Develop and implement policies and procedures that impact accounting operations at the department level, modify and implement procedures to increase operating efficiency, and determine effectiveness of desired results

      • Cross train processes and reports to others on the team

      • Support complex agency and department purchasing activities involving multiple accounts or excessive costs, ensure assets are received and accounted for on master inventory list, and analyze purchasing transactions and functions

      • Perform other related duties as assigned

      About You

      • Ability to present clean, polished, and professional work products and a creative approach to presentation design

      • Excellent and versatile communication, both written and verbal, and strong interpersonal skills with council members, executive management, and administrative staff alike

      • Ability to prioritize multiple requests and inquiries with timeliness with a focus on customer service

      • Software application experience (e.g., Workday and MS Office Suite)

      • Natural curiosity and ability to identify risks and opportunities for innovation and process improvement

      • Self-starter motivation who can carry out assignments with substantial independence

      • A growth mindset and ability to solve complex problems efficiently and effectively

      • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration

      • Experience: Three (3) years of professional level accounting experience reconciling accounting discrepancies, analyzing expenditures, and preparing financial reports

      • Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements
