- MSc or PhD in a relevant scientific subject area or BSc with 3 years additional proven experience
- Significant expertise in application of laboratory automation to medium and high throughput science and a keen interest to develop knowledge in this space.
- Proven experience in biochemical, biophysical or cellular assays
- Proven track record for scientific problem solving and trouble shooting technical issues
- Familiarity with technology-rich lab environments Excellent team working skills with ability to effectively interact and influence across multiple diverse groups.
- Experience of training, supervising & mentoring
- Excellent organisational skills with a proficiency for time management and working on several projects in parallel.
- Agile at learning new concepts and adapting to new technologies, projects and collaborators.
- Ability to work independently prioritise own workload within the larger team environment to deliver department and project requirements.

Introduction to role:
Join our High Throughput Screening (HTS) group, where our core purpose is to deliver hit series of small molecule compounds confirmed as active against a disease target of interest. These will be provided to project teams to initiate medicinal chemistry campaigns as a starting point for developing human therapeutics. As part of the HTS Automation multi-functional team, your role’s core purpose is to support the HTS group to deliver screening campaigns, focusing on the design, construction, and data management of the robotics and high-throughput systems. The role will be based at our brand new, purpose built Discovery Centre (DISC) on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
We are hiring this role at either a Senior Scientist level.
Accountabilities:
As an Automation Senior Scientist, you will facilitate the application of automation to assist HTS team to deliver biochemical, biophysical and cell-based assay screening campaigns. You will work with HTS & assay development scientists to develop screening strategies & optimise assays from bench to robot. You will also provide technical knowledge and expertise to enable the automation of scientific protocols to improve quality and efficiency. Additionally, you will develop and maintain hardware/software and technology knowledge relevant to the role, building expertise in specific aspects of benefit to the department.
CAREER LEVEL D - Essential Skills/Experience:
As this is a lab based role there is an expectation that people are generally on site 5 days a week with some room for flexibility on quieter days.
