- Satisfactory completion of previous posts providing professional training in General Paediatrics & Neonatology to the level required to start to or continue to undertake middle grade responsibilities appropriate to level
- Full MRCPH qualification or success in at least 2 out of 3 MRCPCH written papers
- APLS or EPLS & NLS trained
- Evidence of publications in medical education journals
- Evidence of publications in peer reviewed medical journals
- Experience & training in Child Protection to Level 3 standards or be able to demonstrate this before taking up the post
- Teaching, Learning & Assessment training
- PG Cert in medical education or equivalent
- Practical experience in management of a wide range of conditions in General Paediatrics, Neonatal medicine & Child Protection
- Experience of working or delivering medical education
- Proven ability to utilise IT as administrative tool
- Experience of working with staff from different professional backgrounds
- Understanding of & performing audit - evidence of experience during general professional training
- Extensive experience of working or delivering medical education
- Experience in Emergency Medicine & know how to start management of children presenting with critical illness

Job summary
This 12 month post offers excellent experience and training in Paediatrics. East Lancashire Hospitals is the largest Acute Trust in the North West Region. The Paediatric Service is extremely busy with a wealth of clinical cases to learn from in the Acute and Outpatient settings. The case mix seen is very diverse due to the characteristics of the local population. We care for many children with a variety of complex and rare conditions as well as those with more common problems. The clinical experience we offer is ideal to help prepare for postgraduate examinations or for wider professional development
Main duties of the job
1. 14 person full shift rota covering 2 sites for Paediatrics (Neonatology excluded), which are new contract, 'New deal' and European Working Time Directive compliant. The post holder will supervise the Paediatric Junior Clinical Fellow's work.2. Participate in General Paediatric Ward Rounds with the Ward-based Consultant of the week.3. Work within the team to provide on-going high quality care for inpatients and seeing referrals in theChildren's Observation and Assessment Unit or in the Emergency Department.4. General Paediatric Clinics seeing new and follow-up patients under the supervision of a Consultant Paediatrician.

You will have ward commitments which are managed using the Consultant Ward Week pattern covering both sites. There are also duties in the Childrens Observation and Assessment Units, emergency attendance to the Emergency Department and experience in outpatient clinics. There is a separate team covering Neonatology on the Burnley site.
