      Job Description:

      SENIOR COUNSEL, LABOR & EMPLOYEE RELATIONS

      Job Disclosures:

      Location: This position is remote-eligible, providing the candidate lives within one of the following markets: Denver CO, Las Vegas NV, Dallas TX or Houston TX.

      Compensation:

      The salary range for this position is $156,340 to $220,440. Compensation is based on location and experience. This position is also eligible for a bonus of 20%. Bonuses are not guaranteed and are based on company performance.

      Reports To: General Counsel with dotted line to Chief People Officer

      Job Summary:

      The Senior Counsel, Labor & Employee Relations works closely with Meow Wolf’s legal, human resources, and business leaders to develop and implement the Company’s labor strategy, and they have primary responsibility for implementing that strategy. The ideal candidate has strong experience in bargaining, interfacing with union leaders and business agents, and is adept at navigating the complexities and challenges presented by labor relations issues in a challenging, creative and innovative culture. The role serves as the primary liaison between the company and union representatives, and ensures compliance with collective bargaining agreements and labor laws.

      Job Responsibilities:

      Labor Relations

      • In partnership with key stakeholders, develop and implement comprehensive labor relations strategies for managing in a union environment with multiple CBAs across sites that align with the company's business objectives while maintaining productive relationships with union leadership and its members.

      • Serve as the primary liaison between the company and the union in contract negotiations, and day-to-day issue resolution.

      • Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and labor laws.

      • Provide support for responding to requests for information.

      • Represent the company in negotiations and dispute resolution, including grievances, hearings and arbitrations.

      • Provide guidance and training to management and Human Resources on labor relations issues, contract interpretation and compliance matters.

      • Stay abreast of industry trends, legal developments and changes in labor laws to inform strategies and decision-making.

      • Advise on the implications of labor relations, serving as a subject matter expert to management including via performance management and trainings.

      Employee Relations

      • Conduct internal investigations related to workplace misconduct, discrimination, and harassment claims.

      • Provide guidance on disciplinary actions, terminations, and performance management to mitigate legal risks.

      • Advise on reasonable accommodations, leave policies, and workplace safety compliance.

      • Monitor evolving labor law trends and propose proactive policy updates.

      • Train managers and HR teams on best practices in employee relations and labor law compliance.

      • Assist in drafting employment contracts, severance agreements, and non-compete clauses.


      Required Qualifications:

      • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a related field; JD preferred

      • Minimum of 10 years of experience in labor relations, preferably within the entertainment, recreation or hospitality industries with at least 3 of these years including employment law experience.

      • Previous in-house counsel experience or working with unionized workforces.

      • Familiarity with employment litigation and administrative agency proceedings (EEOC, NLRB, etc.).

      • Experience participating in the collective bargaining process, and leading contract negotiations.

      • Proven track record of developing and executing labor relations strategies that align with business objectives.

      • In-depth knowledge of labor laws, collective bargaining agreements and compliance requirements.

      • Excellent communication, advocacy and drafting skills.

      • Strong organizational skills.

      • Ability to navigate labor relations issues with a highly collaborative approach, to bridge divides, to assimilate and help resolve divergent points of view, and to remain calm under pressure.

      This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and scanners.

      Physical Demands:

      The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical ability to walk, stand, take stairs/slides/elevators, and navigate the elements during the day and night. Employee may be required to remain in a sitting or standing position for prolonged periods, and repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

      Work Schedule:

      This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9a.m. to 5 p.m. or 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
