Department Overview
As a part of the Innovation & Engineering division, you will help the Bank’s Technology directorate to pioneer a new, DevOps focused, future for the Bank.
At the core of our new technology strategy is the concept of scalable, self-serve platforms. To build this vision we will need a wide range of skills over a sizeable set of technologies.
Job description
As a senior DevOps Engineer you will play a major role in designing, building and supporting our new platforms. This includes contributing along our stack, ranging from our cloud platforms to our containerised developer offerings.
A keen interest in developing our junior engineers is expected, along with actively being involved in spreading our culture to the wider Technology teams. The Bank engages in critical work for the nation, as such your work contributing towards our technology transformation will have a genuine impact.
You will need substantial experience in a number of DevOps projects and competence with a few key technologies.
Role Requirements
Minimum Criteria
· Extensive Kubernetes experience, including production support.
· Understanding and practical implementation of both CI and CD.
· Extensive cloud automation experience [AWS, GCP or Azure].
· Extensive experience with Linux based systems.
· Ability to develop in one or more languages.
· Previous use of git for source control.
· Willing to mentor junior employees.
· Willing to experiment and fail fast.
· Have a security-first focus, baked-in not bolted-on.
Desirable Criteria
· Previous experience in Python or Golang.
· Previous experience of Ansible and Terraform.
· Understanding of observability and its implementation.
· Understanding and ability to provide quality, automated testing as you develop.
· Ability to design solutions independently.
· Networking knowledge.
· Understanding of data science concepts.

Salary and Benefits Information
This specific role offers a base salary of circa £69, 230- £ 87, 750 per annum (depending on skills and experience) on a full-time basis. We encourage flexible working, part time working and job share arrangements. Part time salary and benefits will be on a pro-rated basis as appropriate.
In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below:
• A non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/95th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/50th) or decrease (to 1/120th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year.
• A discretionary performance award based on a current award pool.
• A 7% benefits allowance with the option to take as salary or purchase a wide range of flexible benefits. (Note that from April 2023 and for the Benefits year 2023/24, this will increase to 8%)
• 26 days’ annual leave with option to buy up to 12 additional days through flexible benefits.
• Private medical insurance and income protection.National Security Vetting Process
Employment in this role will be subject to the National Security Vetting clearance process (and typically can take between 6 to 12 weeks post offer) and the passing of additional Bank security checks in accordance with the Bank policy.
