      This post is ideal for both experienced band 5 Dietitians who want to secure a post in paediatric diabetes or for newly qualified Dietitians, who are keen to secure a progressional post within this area.

      An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the growing team of 29 Dietitians, dietetic assistant practitioner and dietetic assistants, as a Senior Dietitian working in gastroenterology.

      Main duties of the job

      As a clinical specialist dietitian you will be an active member of the paediatric diabetes MDT at North Tees and Hartlepool working to deliver, develop, evaluate and audit the service.

      You will work closely with the paediatric diabetes MDT to provide evidence based dietetic care to inpatients and outpatients.

      Working as part of our dietetic team you will also provide inpatient and outpatient dietetic care forgeneral paediatric patients referred in to the dietetic service, including patients with faltering growth, non IgE and IgE mediated allergies, and prematurity, amongst other clinical conditions.

      This post will work across both the University Hospital of North Tees and the University Hospital of Hartlepool

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      To provide specialist dietary advice to adults with a range of complex gastroenterology conditions including those referred with coeliac disease, IBS, liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, in the acute and community setting.

      To be an active member of the gastroenterology teams, as a clinical specialist in dietetics involved in patient care, educational sessions and team meetings.

      To establish enteral feeding working in partnership with Home Enteral Feeding Team.

      To communicate effectively with patients, and carers to ensure understanding of their condition and gain informed consent for dietetic treatment often requiring management of barriers to communication.

      To provide informative written reports to referrers and for meetings on treatment plans and progress of individual patients.

      To work autonomously to effectively time manage and prioritise individual workload, balancing patient caseload and non-patient related work demands.

      Prepared to work flexibly in clinics and on wards as a member of the gastroenterology multidisciplinary team and dietetic team.

      To work extended days and as part of a seven day service as and when required.

      To provide expert advice to patients, carers and health professionals; Involving nutritional diagnosis (noting formal assessment of physical, psychological, emotional and social needs.

      Interpretation of clinical conditions; biochemistry, pharmacology; anthropometry; and diet history) in developing effective dietetic care plans; patient centred goals, and use of prescribable nutritional formulations.

      To use interviewing and negotiating skills to communicate advice appropriately and effectively, providing individualised dietary advice to meet the needs of patients, which are both realistic andpractical, taking into other factors such as non-compliance.

      To provide expert advice into team discussions regarding nutritional care plans on wards, and in community, also in consultant led clinics.
