      Job Title: Senior Manager, Technical Services Cheese

      Job Duties: Direct the organizational structure and people resources for the Cheese Technical Services Operations Support department to ensure the completion of strategic projects and departmental outputs in an efficient, effective, and timely basis factoring in fluctuating workloads and changing priorities using knowledge of Food manufacturing; Mass balance process flows and calculations, heat exchange (conceptual, theoretical, & applicable), and food or dairy packaging experience; Fermentation Science; Regulatory (PMO, CFR) and HACCP; Dairy Ingredient production concepts, principles, and theories especially in the Cheese making; microbiology and Bio (food) chemistry, pumping and conveying liquids and solids, mixing, piping layouts, tank / storage for liquids and powders, powder packaging, instrumentation (specification only), and basic electrical (power/instrumentation); Cultures, Proteins, and Fat, Both Wet, Dry, and Packaging manufacturing environments. Oversee staffing, professional development, budgeting, organizational planning, and general management. Accomplish staff results by communicating job expectations; hiring and promoting for success; appraising job results; training and coaching employees; developing and enforcing policies, procedures, and productivity standards. Identify and monitor key performance indicators for department such as: quality of customer service, staff proficiency, dependability of results, and plant support. Act as a subject matter expert in starter production, pasteurization, and vat operations for Pasta Filata Type cheese make. Provide technical cheese making direction to production facilities when quality issues arise. Provide technical input to the TS Design team on optimal design of new equipment concepts. Prevent problems before they happen through training, continuous improvement, and root cause analysis activities by interacting with employees, suppliers and customers to accumulate information, analyze the situation, and recommend solutions and improvements to quickly eliminate problems. Monitor the company starter program and managing risk with bacteriophage control. Develop formal standard operating procedures to use for training materials to train staff and plant personnel whenever new technologies, processes, or formulations are developed. Champion department initiatives and operate as a subject matter expert in applicable technologies, policies, programs, and systems management for all aspects of Cheese Technical Services. Ensure department’s financial, safety, retention, and employee involvement objectives. Provide technical guidance, expertise and leadership to projects within functional scope. Support the design engineering team as needed to ensure operations best practices are considered for new equipment design. Collaborate with technical services processing team regarding the installation and commissioning of various plant projects. Write capital expenditure proposals for projects.

      Job Requirements: Master of Science in Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Food Science, Dairy Science, or a related field + 3 years of experience as a Food Scientist. In lieu of MS degree, a BS degree in fields listed + 5 years of experience as a Food Scientist is acceptable. Experience to include at least 3 years of working knowledge of:

      Food manufacturing; Mass balance process flows and calculations, heat exchange (conceptual, theoretical, & applicable), and food or dairy packaging experience; Fermentation Science; Regulatory (PMO, CFR) and HACCP; Dairy Ingredient production concepts, principles, and theories especially in the Cheese making; microbiology and Bio (food) chemistry, pumping and conveying liquids and solids, mixing, piping layouts, tank / storage for liquids and powders, powder packaging, instrumentation (specification only), and basic electrical (power/instrumentation); Cultures, Proteins, and Fat, Both Wet, Dry, and Packaging manufacturing environments. Domestic & International travel to undetermined sites up to 50% of work schedule.
