Accountable for a broad function that focuses on dual directives of technical, multi-discipline engineering support and business performance across all aspects of the P&L.
Safety leader, with specific focus to set both cultural and structural standard of industry leading personal and process safety across the assets.
Responsible for complex economic and investment decision-making to increase margins (revenue and cost).
Identify new opportunities and develop reasons for margin improvement, cost reduction, and strategic transformation.
Works with management and peers to establish strategic direction, rank, and implement opportunities from Area Based Strategies and investment opportunities.
Translates the CHO strategy into well-defined outcomes for engineering and operations. Leverages resources across internal network in all areas of finance, commercial, marketing, A&D/BD, and liability management partner groups to ensure the best technical and business decisions are made to meet the medium- and long-term objectives of the CHO business unit.
Complete complex business, strategic and technical plans.
Primary accountability for all key areas of P&L, including delivering of opex budget of >$300 MM
Accountable for all aspects of operations engineering, facility and infrastructure review and repair, optimization, regulatory and licensing.
Participate in the identification and evaluation of complex and high-value acquisition opportunities.
Responsible Member for the Cenovus PPMP and engineering Permit to Practice with APEGA/APEGS
Promoting innovation within the team and external to the group by identifying and integrating appropriate technologies.
Accountable for safe, efficient, and effective capital project design and execution for all opex and operations capital projects, as well as equip, tie-in and associated infrastructure projects for delivery of new well capital program.
Working with the commercial teams to handle midstream and competitor relationships, including contract renegotiation, gathering system optimization, new business opportunity generation (e.g., reroutes), facility consolidation and product recovery optimization to drive improved asset value.
Cultivate a team environment of collaboration, effective communication, and multi-functional understanding with internal and external partner groups to elicit positive change and enhance asset value.
Provide guidance and oversight in employee technical development in all areas of infrastructure, plant, and facility engineering teams. Provide financial, business, and soft skill mentorship to ensure a highly functioning team and strong individual contributor development in all areas.
Deliver on safety, operating cost, and operations capital budget metrics
Identify, evaluate, and implement cost optimization and growth opportunities to improve the performance of the CHO business.
Implement CHO contribution to ESG strategy, including specific GHG reduction targets
Deliver Area Based Strategies (ABS) including project scoping, definition, and execution where appropriate to allow proactive management of our commercial and development strategies across the portfolio.
Deliver design basis, onstream planning, and onstream management to increase volumes and returns for new well execution programs safely and within budget.
Attract incremental business and associated revenue to existing and new Cenovus infrastructure.
Support the evaluation of investment and divestment opportunities to improve CHO business performance.
Implementation and continuous improvement of COIMS framework, specifically pertaining Elements with significant engineering involvement
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
A minimum of 15 years of experience in senior roles with a focus on operations and engineering including, ICC, infrastructure, plant, and facilities.
A minimum of 10 years of directly related leadership experience in associated subject areas.
Interdisciplinary experience including facilities engineering, development, commercial negotiations, business development, and business operations.
Proven business acumen with the ability to identify and resolve business performance issues. Demonstrated technical competence in all areas of operations engineering.
Demonstrated leader in personal and process safety.
Demonstrates strong financial savvy in all areas of business ownership, including in the review, assessment and approval of operations projects and capital allocation.
Proven ability to effectively identify and assess risk(s) when solving complex problems.
Demonstrates understanding of commercial factors which impact the business.
Strong leadership orientation that includes coaching, development of staff, and guidance of individuals toward goal achievement.
Translates strategy into well-defined outcomes.
Helps position the business to realize competitive advantages in the industry.
Change champion, able to introduce and market change, including effective planning and implementation into team
Leads by example by engaging engages others in a way that positively motivates at multi-functional level

Cenovus is looking for a Senior Manager, Operations Engineering to join our team in Calgary.
Working with the Vice President of Lloyd Thermal and CHO Operations, the Senior Manager is an influential and key member of the leadership team that works with operations, maintenance, project engineering and joint interest to drive safety, cost, volume, and financial performance for the CHO business.
The Senior Manager, Operations Engineering will lead a team of engineers to manage the operations engineering accountabilities for the Conventional Heavy Oil portfolio and the Integrated Control Centers for Lloyd Thermal and Conventional Heavy Oil. The team will be accountable for operations engineering scope ranging from the wellhead to sales point and work to drive value creation through alignment with production engineering, field operations and facilities and project engineering teams.
