Looking to take the next step in your career? Hatch is currently seeking highly motivated Process Engineers to join the Metals team in Perth.

Hatch serves the world’s mining and metals industry with studies, design, engineering, development of innovative technologies, and project and construction management through to commissioning and operations for both greenfield and brownfield facilities. We are a Tier 1, employee-owned company who are process engineering driven, delivering smart solutions to tough problems.

Hatch is at the forefront of providing clients with plants to produce materials needed for a low carbon future. Key elements in reducing CO2 emissions are vehicle electrification and mass energy storage using lithium-ion batteries. Amplifying these technologies, the production of rare earth metals for rare earth magnet production enables very significant efficiency gains in electric motors and wind turbines. The industries creating the required metals or metal salts are new, challenging and require innovative approaches. Join us in creating positive change throughout the entire metals-energy lifecycle value chain.

As the successful candidate, you will:

      • Assist in all phases of the project life-cycle, from concept studies through to detailed design for metals projects; particularly in the alumina, nickel, lithium, rare earths and/or battery materials industries.
      • Design and/or optimize flowsheets for greenfield or brownfield metallurgical processing plant projects
      • Conduct trade-off studies to select optimized project solutions.
      • Prepare design calculations and mass balance models in simulation software (METSIM, SysCAD, IDEAS)
      • Provide process design requirements to other discipline engineers and designers
      • Prepare process equipment data sheets, including technical details and duties as required.
      • Ensure process specifications portray the appropriate information and design intent.
      • Participate in and/or lead Hazop, HazID and Risk identification studies
      • Work with project teams to prepare capital and operating cost estimates.
      • Work with clients to understand their businesses and project needs.
      • Develop and mentor junior process engineers

      You bring to the role:

      • Process experience in either an engineering contracting environment or consultancy organisations in the metallurgical industry. Experience in the design and operation of hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy processes for metals - lithium, nickel, cobalt, copper, alumina, zinc, gold and rare earths will be highly regarded, as will operational experience.
      • Recognised qualifications in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering from an accredited college or university
      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
      • Planning and organizational skills
      • Good general computer literacy
