- Conduct research and analyze information pertinent to the development of programs and services.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of programs.

- Previous experience with aquatics programming and facility operations is highly preferred.
- Previous experience with Lifeguard training and/or swim lesson program coordination is highly preferred.
- Previous experience overseeing staff is desirable.
- Possession of CPR/First Aid/AED is highly preferred.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain and retain, a California Class C driver license by the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid/CPR/AED certification by time of appointment.
- Jeff Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Training certification within six (6) months of employment.
- Jeff Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Instructor certification within six (6) months of employment.
- NRPA Aquatic Facility Operator certification within six (6) months of employment.

The Folsom Parks & Recreation Department is currently recruiting for an experienced and versatile (1) Sr. Recreation Coordinator - Aquatics. Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, this position provides program development, staff leadership, facility operations, and customer engagement with a variety of programs, services, and events that benefit the specific users and bring opportunity to enhance community. The successful candidate will have experience developing and implementing swim lessons, summer camp programs, aquatics classes, lifeguard training, facility rental, birthday parties, concessions, competitive and seasonal age group swimming, and special events.
The individual will have a strong ability to plan, direct, and implement programs in collaboration with City of Folsom full-time and part-time staff. They will effectively evaluate programs and determine opportunities for efficiencies and adaptations for service delivery. Incumbents may oversee, monitor, and/or direct the work of lower level personnel. Some positions may perform direct supervision, but not for a preponderance of the time. This role will provide staff with professional development, that will empower individual growth, while benefiting the needs of our community. Additionally, they will focus on building a strong foundation of community partnerships and programs, while looking to the future in evaluating, developing, and implementing efficiencies and additions to serve the community.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Senior Recreation Coordinator is the lead or specialist level class in the series, although some positions may provide direct supervision for a small proportion of the time. The Senior Recreation Coordinator distinguished from the Recreation Coordinator II classification in that the former has greater responsibility, autonomy, and discretion in planning and completing a wide variety of recreation programs and related tasks. Incumbents in the Senior Recreation Coordinator class have day-to-day oversight and responsibility for a major and/or multiple programs and assigned work and may supervise the work of regular staff in lower level classifications.TENTATIVE INTERVIEW TIMELINE
Knowledge of:
A bachelor's degree in recreation, leisure management, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
One (1) year of full-time experience as a Recreation Coordinator II with the City of Folsom.OR
Three (3) years of full-time increasingly responsible experience in recreation program leadership including one (1) year of leadwork experience.
Substitution:
Additional qualifying experience can substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Desirable Qualifications:
At the option of the City, persons hired into this class may be required to either possess at entry or obtain within specified time limits, designated licenses, certificates or specialized education and training relevant to the area of assignment. Additional requirements may include, but are not limited to the following:
Work is performed both in a typical office setting and outdoor environment. Work may take place at off-site indoor and outdoor locations throughout the City. (1) Mobility: frequent use of keyboard; frequent sitting, standing, and walking; occasional bending or squatting. (2) Lifting: frequently up to 10 pounds; occasionally up to 25 pounds. (3) Vision: constant use of overall vision; frequent computer use; occasional color and depth vision.
