      About this opportunity:

      The main purpose of the Senior Reservoir Development Engineer is to define and scope sustaining SAGD pad and well design for the Christina Lake asset. You will be responsible to collaborate and generate a high value subsurface and completion design that is reflective of optimized development and operating strategies, working closely with geoscientists and other vested partners. Additionally, you will be expected to contribute to data analysis projects that enhance understanding and predictability of SAGD performance.

      What you’ll do:

      • Working with geoscientists, with feedback from Production and Reservoir Optimization, scope the most value accretive SAGD pad and well pair development. This involves progressing a pad from conception through to drilling and completion.

      • Forecast upcoming well expectations, and model and design optimized well completions

      • Identify potential issues and optimize development through either simulation or analysis of operating analogues

      • Analyze data to improve forecasting accuracy

      • Generate ideas for improvement and ensure consistency in development practices

      • Foster effective communication across disciplines

      Who you are:

      • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) accredited with APEGA

      • Minimum 8 years of experience

      • Prior experience working on commercially operating SAGD assets, notably in production, development, completions or reservoir engineering capacities

      • Advanced subsurface engineering capabilities, specifically regarding well design, fluid flow in porous media, plus rock and reservoir properties

      • Experience with numerical reservoir simulation, reservoir modeling and forecasting (experience with CMG STARS or an equivalent thermal simulation software package)

      • Familiarity with probabilistic analysis and ability to make recommendations and decisions in an environment with uncertainty and where multi-disciplinary input is required

      • General understanding of SAGD processing facility design and its impact on reservoir engineering principles

      • Proficiency in PowerBI and/or Spotfire is an asset

      • Experience/capability in SQL, Python, R, VBA, or Matlab programming (one or more) is an asset

      • Strong communication and inter-personal skills which translate into being a key team contributor

      • Demonstrated capacity to learn new concepts quickly and ability to apply technical concepts into practice

      • Ability to function with minimal direction, approach problems with new ideas and generate value opportunities

      • Understand priorities and manage time and workload where best suited to add value to the asset and Cenovus as a whole
