      Where you will be working:

      Intensive Care Trainee, Trainee Reliever and Provisional Fellow Positions

      These positions are based in ICU at Gosford Hospital.

      The Gosford ICU is accredited for basic and advanced training (General Training) with the College of Intensive care Medicine (CICM).

      Gosford ICU has a strong record of success with all parts of the CICM examinations.

      Approved training can also be claimed by medical officers registered as trainees with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine).

      There is access to secondments for CICM Trainees to Anaesthetics, Acute and Longitudinal Medicine and Paediatric Intensive Care Units terms, Palliative Care and more

      In conjunction with the University of Newcastle, CCLHD has recently opened the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute on the Gosford Hospital campus, providing additional opportunities in training and research.

      Critical Care Medicine – Senior Resident Medical Officer – Gosford Hospital

      This Critical Care SRMO will spend 2 terms with Gosford Anaesthetics, one term with the Gosford Emergency Department and one or two terms in Gosford Intensive Care. (The second Intensive Care term will be spent either at Gosford Intensive Care or in Wyong ICU)

      This Critical Care SRMO will spend 2 terms with Wyong Intensive Care Unit, 2 terms with Wyong Emergency Department and 1 term with Gosford Anaesthetics.

      Both the Gosford Based and Wyong based position have an exceptional track record of progressing to advanced training in their preferred specialty.

      CCLHD Intensive Care Services

      Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital for the Central Coast, with over 500 inpatient beds and 24/7 access to the emergency department and operating theatres. A recent $368 million dollar redevelopment delivered a new emergency department, ICU, nuclear medicine facility, special care nursery and expanded medical imaging service
      The new Intensive Care Unit at Gosford Hospital opened in 2019 and has 24 physical bed space with 14 funded beds and the capacity to ventilate 11 patients. It is expected that the extra beds will be opened as clinical need arises.

      The service also manages the Central Coast Road Retrieval Service.

      Wyong Hospital is an acute major metropolitan hospital with over 300 beds providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern region of the Central Coast. A recent $200 million expansion delivered a new emergency department, ICU, paediatric unit, inpatient wards, theatres and expanded medical imaging services. The new ICU at Intensive Care Unit at Gosford Hospital opened in 2019 and has 12 physical bed spaces with 6 funded beds.

      *Where it is identified that a prevocational doctor has a two year prevocational contract and has accepted a 2025 PGY 2 position at another facility, the relevant JMO Units will be notified and they will contact the doctor to clarify which position they will be working in for 2025
      1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
      2. Completion of at least two postgraduate years working as a medical officer with demonstrated competence.
      3. Demonstrated interest in Critical Care Medicine. Willingness to learn a range of invasive therapies.
      4. Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, including providing leadership and direction to ensure appropriate management of patients.
      5. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise, with demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
      6. Demonstrated time management and problem solving skills. Along with Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education.
      7. Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills.
      8. Demonstration of leadership or initiative in either clinical or non-clinical setting.
