UKDT Mid-Tier Banks – Senior supervisor

      Directorate Overview

At the Bank of England, we protect everyday life in the UK. We ensure that financial services are safe, inflation is stable, and systems are secure. Our Banking directorate supervises around 600 firms, so they’re crucial to this. And now, we’re looking for motivated people to join us and take on incredibly impactful and rewarding work.

      Mid-Tier Overview

The mid-tiers are a broad and varied group of firms, comprising of UK banks which are not currently considered ‘systemic’ but are large enough, and serve a wide enough range of customers, potentially to cause material disruption if they were to fail. They typically cover market segments which tend to be less served by the largest banks, including residential markets, buy-to-let (BTL), consumer finance, commercial lending to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and more. The sector includes some household name deposit takers and branch-based banks, as well as fast-growing firms, digital disrupters, and specialist higher-risk lenders.

Supervisors in the mid-tiers division will work across the entire range of risks our banks are exposed to and will have a significant role in driving the supervisory strategy and building an effective relationship with banks’ senior leaders.

      Job Description

Opportunity to supervise at a crucial time for the firm, working in a challenging and fast paced environment. The role will report to the Scale E Manager in the Mid-Tier division which will also provide the opportunity to be involved in the supervision of 2 other mid-tier firms on this part of the team. The successful candidate should have strong problem-solving skills, an ability to manage stakeholders and be able to confidently lead and deliver the agreed supervisory strategy for the firm.

Plus, you’ll share your findings with the wider internal team and work closely with senior leaders across the UK and international financial firms. Everything you do will help to ensure our supervisory strategy is being implemented. The mixture of high-profile work and complex issues means you’ll have plenty of opportunities to develop both your technical and interpersonal skills.

We’ll match you to a role that builds on your strengths. You’ll enjoy analysing problems and be open to discussing and debating issues. All of this will lead you to investigate different issues and make good judgements. And with plenty of self-motivation and initiative, you’ll be able to set your own targets and work to deadlines. Importantly, you’ll have the ability to manage different stakeholders and influence both people and decisions.
