ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Founded in 1965, the Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (CPC) aims to promote the social and economic empowerment of Chinese American, immigrant, and low-income communities. Today, CPC is the nation's largest Asian American social services agency and offers more than 50 programs at over 35 sites throughout New York City, including early childhood education, school-age care, youth services, workforce development, community services, and senior services. CPC strives to be the premier social service and leadership development organization. In 2017, CPC launched Advancing Our CommUNITY, its organization-wide strategy to expand services to address persistent needs and emerging trends and to improve leadership skills among staff and community members. In 2021, CPC served over 125,000 individuals and families from all 56 community districts of New York City by providing high-quality learning opportunities for all ages, offering personalized social resources, and developing their career paths. DIVISION SUMMARY

CPC Education and Career Services Division (ECS) provides dynamic programs and activities that bridge youth and adults with their highest educational, economic and leadership potential. ECS believes learning is life-long--it is never too early or too late to start learning, which is why we use an asset-based approach to maximize our community members' current strengths. Whether in our schools, community centers, or internship sites, ECS creates equitable learning environments that promote leadership development, self-advocacy, and community building. Our programs equip community members with essential skills and experiences today so that they are empowered to take the next step tomorrow.

PROGRAM SUMMARY

Funded through the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides youth ages 14-24 years old with project-based learning opportunities and paid, summer work experience for up to six weeks in July and August. They are engaged in projects that provide enriching career exploration, emphasize foundational work readiness skills, and help build social emotional learning skills. All participants are provided with workshops on job readiness, career exploration, financial literacy, continuing education and other life skills.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Multi-Site Director, the part-time Site Monitor will:

• Assist with recruitment and enrollment of selected participants
• Act as a liaison between worksites, community members, school, and agency
• Maintain participant folders, timesheets, enrollment documents, and any DYCD SYEP-related documentation
• Assist with facilitating work readiness training, workshops, and program orientation
• Develop and outreach to new worksites and partnerships
• Visit worksites to ensure community members safety, assessments, collect timesheets, and participants’ payroll
• Support with program-related inquiries, job placement, site monitoring, and assist with audits and site visits
• Attend meetings and profession development trainings required by CPC and funding agency
• Comply with all DYCD policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

• High School student; college student preferred
• Prior experience working with High School youth

Skills:

• Strong work ethic and demonstrated passion for youth development
• Familiarity with the virtual platforms such as Zoom, Google Classroom, etc.
• Dynamic, engaging, and capable of effectively working in a team environment
• Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; knowledge of teen and immigrant issues helpful
• Fluency in Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese) and/or Spanish a plus

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS OVERVIEW

• $20.00 - $20.00 per hour; 19 hours per week through May, 35 hours per week June through August
• CPC offers eligible seasonal staff members mandatory benefits, including paid New York State sick time
