- Assigns and reviews work.
- Provides guidance and training to assigned staff.
- Counsels staff regarding work performance.
- Reassigns staff to meet day-to-day operating needs.
- Establishes annual goals and objectives.
- Approves time off.
- Adjusts first level grievances.
- Effectively recommends and imposes discipline up to and including discharge.
- Prepares and signs performance evaluations.
- Determines and recommends staffing needs.
- Coordinates and participates in the maintenance of site grounds, facilities, and equipment.
- Inspects facilities for preventative maintenance planning.
- Monitors and implements site security/ safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
- Travels throughout the sites.
- Completes financial records and reports.
- Exercises budgetary controls to ensure fiscal integrity.
- Reviews attendance and inventory records/reports.
- Compiles data for future projects.
- Reviews, analyzes, and incorporates proposals of natural and cultural resource specialist and others concerning short/long range plans for site management.
- Supervises and conducts research related to site restoration, interpretations, and development.
- Develops/implements public information materials and programs.
- Promotes Department programs, activities, and philosophies.
- Serves as Department representative at various meetings.
- Recruits and/or oversees the activities of volunteers and others engaged in site activities.
- Responds to oral and written inquiries concerning Department programs and policies.
- Appears at public hearings.
- Two (2) years of extensive knowledge of agency programs, policies, and procedures.
- Two (2) years of experience in assigning and supervising the work of assistants and staff members.
- Two (2) years of experience in problem solving situations and adopting an effective course of action to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Two (2) years of experience in evaluating program effectiveness and making recommendations on policies and procedures.
- Two (2) years of experience in expressing ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Requires ability to pass a background check.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to travel.
- Ability to obtain pesticide operator’s license within 6 months of employment.
- Ability to obtain Burn Boss certification within 18 months of employment.
- Ability to work under adverse environmental conditions on a year-round basis.
- Ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and material utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds.
- Ability to lift, carry and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
- Ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
- Ability obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certifications within 6 months of employment.

Under direction, this position manages the operation of Big River State Forest, Delabar State Park, Henderson County Conservation Area, Henderson Creek Access Area and Crosses Corner Access Area.

1. Requires knowledge, skills, and mental development equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in park and recreation administration, or natural resource area administration, or in museum administration, history, American studies, or archeology.
2. Requires four years of supervisory experience in managing an outdoor recreational park, or natural public area, or a cultural/historic site or museum.Preferred Qualifications

Division Statement
Charged with preserving, protecting and promoting Illinois’ natural and cultural resources, Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) employees oversee water, wildlife, wetlands and oil wells, parks, historic sites – and everything in between.
