- Be an effective team leader within the guidelines of department and company policies, procedures and values, in fulfillment of Monarch’s mission statement to “provide our guests with a quality, personalized mountain experience.”
- Work in conjunction with other employees and departments as part of the Monarch team.
- Oversee and lead rookie training and direct and assist the different patrol Teams in creating and implementing ongoing training opportunities.
- Contribute to the maintenance of training materials, manuals, checklists and other documents necessary for the success of the department.
- Coordinate and assist in daily work projects and trainings with patrollers and Assist with the Continuing Quality Improvement Program (CQI).
- Provide assistance and appropriate first aid to sick/injured guests; manage their evacuation and transportation as necessary.
- Perform avalanche reduction duties to include completion of appropriate documentation.
- Participate in search and rescue operations when necessary.
- Communicate clearly and concisely on the mountain radio system in accordance with Monarch policies and procedures and FCC rules and regulations.
- Perform lift evacuations when necessary.
- Assist in, and take the lead as directed, in accident investigations.
- Perform the duties and responsibilities of a Ski Patroller-Level 3 whenever necessary and provide support to Supervisors as needed.
- Educate ski area guests and employees on the Skier’s Responsibility Code and Skiers Safety Act as appropriate, in a courteous and non-condescending manner.

- Minimum Age: 21
- Legal citizen of the United States or possess other proper work permit authentication.
- A valid Driver’s License, and a good, company insurable driving record.
- High School Diploma or GED required, college degree preferred.
- Ski/ride at an advanced level.
- Current certification in EMT or OEC and CPR required.
- Minimum three seasons of Ski Patrol experience preferred.
- Avalanche I and Avalanche II/Pro 1 certification required.
- Experience as an Avi Control Route Leader at Monarch or similar preferred.
- Type I Explosives Permit or the ability to obtain an explosive permit with the state of Colorado required.
- Requires the ability to work any day of the week, Saturday through Friday and holidays, and overtime if necessary, as agreed upon with your superior.
- Must be able to load and unload a chair lift, and stop, turn, kick-turn, change directions suddenly, adapt to uneven, varying terrain, and move in all directions on skis or snowboard carrying up to 90 lbs. of varying shapes and sizes.
- Must be able to ski a loaded toboggan on all terrain and in all conditions.
- Requires stretching, bending, squatting, reaching, grasping, and routinely lifting moderate to heavy (90 lbs.) loads.
- Requires good balance, standing and walking on uneven, slippery surfaces; pushing and pulling up to 90 lbs., and shovel snow.
- Requires driving or riding a snowmobile.
- Requires sitting and working at a computer for short periods of time.
- Possible exposure to bio-hazards (see JHAs).
- Requires working at high elevation (up to 12,000’), with extended exposure to adverse weather conditions, such as severe cold, heavy snowfall, rain, strong winds and intense sun.

The Ski Patrol Team Lead assists and works in conjunction with the Ski Patrol Assistant Director and the Assistant Director of Mountain Operations in overseeing the seasonal and daily operations of the Ski Patrol department so that each customer experience is reasonably safe, positive, and personalized. This includes, but is not limited to, providing and creating training opportunities for Patrol, including leading Rookie training, and implementing training opportunities through the “Teams” structure. This position will also provide input and assistance in coordinating daily routines; being a leader and setting the example for company teamwork; and effective communication with employees and other company personnel.
