Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for a Small Business Advisor / State Marketing Support in the Division of Economic Development and Community Engagement. The primary function of the position is to provide client advisory and marketing support to small businesses within a 13-county area in Southeast Kansas and to manage the Pittsburg State University Kansas Small Business Development Center’s (KSBDC) and the State SBDC’s Marketing efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities of Position

65% -Client Advisory Function:

• Assist in the achievement of economic impact goals established by the Kansas SBDC State Office.
• Track and report activities as established by the Kansas SBDC State Director.
• Establish and maintain client files and records. Enter and update client information in the KSBDC database. Conduct follow-up activities to improve service delivery and assessment and prepare reports.
• Work with divisional administration to accomplish administrative work in accordance with the Kansas BSDC and PSU policies, procedures, and deadlines.
• Participate in PSU Kansas SBDC meetings, trainings, events and calls as required.
• Provide individual counseling and assistance to clients in the areas of business plan development, cash flow analysis, marketing, and management. Assist clients with business plan development, cash flow analysis, marketing plans and other areas of business development.
• Manage and present seminars on relevant marketing topics.
• Travel, weekly (sometimes multiples days a week) to PSU SBDC’s 11 county area to provide client support, 1 on 1 and in person business advising or workshops.
• Build effective working relationships with area agencies that provide assistance to small business through personal visits to their locations, participate in joint projects, and development of region-specific programming or training.
• Promote general awareness of KSBDC programs by making presentations to area organization, attending University functions, participating in network events, and through involvement in local professional organizations.

25%- State Marketing Function:

• Ensure deliverables are met for the Kansas Small Business Development Center Websites & Social Media Accounts for the entire state. Duties include updating event calendars, staff bios, content curation (both from 3rd party sources as well as internally developed), website maintenance and client success stories.
• Monitor, report and review current approaches & suggestions for improvements and work activity process notes.
• Supervise, train and mentor student employees working within the KSBDC State Marketing Office to ensure delegated tasks/activities are being performed correctly & in a timely manner.
