The Opportunity

This is an 8 to 10-week internship with start dates beginning in May through June 2025, depending on your availability, with an end date of July 31st. Nutanix offers both hybrid internships where you would work from the San Jose, CA, office 2-3 days/week. Submit your application by April 18, 2025

About Nutanix SaaS Engineering – AI/ML Team

Nutanix SaaS Engineering builds and operates cloud-based SaaS solutions that power the Company’s shift to a cloud-first, services-led business model. As part of this team, the AI/ML group—located in San Jose, CA, and India—develops data-driven and generative AI solutions that enhance customer experience, drive sales, and increase operational efficiency.

Your Role

In this hybrid role, you’ll work closely with experienced team members who will mentor you as you design and implement impactful AI/ML solutions.
You’ll gain hands-on experience working on cutting-edge technologies in a flexible environment, with two in-office days per week and no travel required.
Work closely with technical staff/leaders to design and create design documents.
Involve yourself in data analysis and develop data-driven inferences and features.
Develop Python code for AI/ML projects
Work on prompt engineering and experiment with different LLMs
Contribute to the development of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines
Collaborate with an 8-member team to develop effective solutions
Participate in the complete software development life cycle for AI/ML projects, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery
Work closely with product management and senior team members to achieve defined metrics and business outcomes
Establish and maintain transparent communication with team members and stakeholders regarding project progress, challenges, and solutions

What You Will Bring

You are currently pursuing a bachelor’s in computer science or a related field.
Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, or a related field.
Good programming skills and coding experience in Python
Hands-on experience with AI/ML technologies such as Pandas, Scikit-learn, and prompt engineering
Hands-on experience with SQL and a strong interest in data analysis
Understanding of core concepts in machine learning, natural language processing, and generative AI
Completed relevant coursework in mathematics, linear algebra, statistics, or probability
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to break down complex problems

Baseline coding skills assessment in the language of your choice

First Round: Interview with one of our Talent Advisors to dive into your unique experiences and motivators.
Second Round: Technical interviews with our hiring teams to showcase your skills.

Students attending the second round should expect 2 x 45-minute technical rounds with Nutanix engineers designed to assess their technical skills and role readiness, & 1 x 30-minute hiring leader round to gauge your motivation for the opportunity at Nutanix. Each meeting will offer you an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the team you’ll potentially work with.

Final Decision: Offers extended! Finalists can expect offers by the third or fourth week in April.

The pay range for this position at the commencement of employment is expected to be between USD 33 and USD 54 per hour.

However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

Hybrid: This role operates in a hybrid capacity, blending the benefits of remote work with the advantages of in-person collaboration. For most roles, that will mean coming into an office a minimum of 2 - 3 days per week. However, specific roles and/or teams may require more frequent in-office presence. Your manager will provide additional team-specific guidance and norms.

If hired, the employee will be in an “at-will position,” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
